I will have the Powercolor Red Dragon RX570 and the card has an 8pin connector. My PSU has 6pin, if I connected only the 6 pin would it work for this particular graphics card?

I heard some graphics card will work with 6 pin instead of 8pin, but have no information on this particular card

System:
i5 haswell
8 gigs
Antec Basic 450 Watt
2 TB hdd

Benchmark Scores Faster than yours... I'd bet on it. :)
I wouldn't try it, no. Get a molex to 8/6+2 pin adapter.

How about entering your system specs like I have so we know what hardware you are working with there grich. ;)

It shouldn't fry the card or mobo, right? If it doesn't work it just wont display anything during POST?

I have no idea which is why I wouldn't try it. If it needs 8, I can't imagine it will work with 6, but I have been wrong before!

I figured if it doesn't work I would go buy it from newegg. But if it did turn on with 6pin power cord, I would buy one from aliexpress and let them snail mail me one in 34-60 days.

I honestly didn't even try with a juat 6 pin that being said, the power color models for the most part use the same pcb on every card and just slap a 6 or 8 pin depending on clockspeed. The bios doesn't change so I would imagine it just works, I don't want to shut down my miners to check however. I am behind enough as it stands this week

Would I make any money with ONE RX 570 mining? I'm curious. And what would you suggest I mine with 1 little card if I wanted to try?

I read that the 5xx series differs from the 4xx in that it uses 10-20% more power, but can mine 2 types of things at once much better than the 4xx.

With only 1 card, at this point I wouldnt start mining with only 1 card. I think with only 1 card you wouldnt even break even on power cost.

Ok, 8 pin was primarily for overclocking in the past. You can try it but I would just get an adapter for molex to 2 pin... or 6 pin to 8pin...

Please don't make this anymore difficult than it has to be.

Set the bios up correctly and power usage is the same on all of them. Even my giant xfx 8+6 pin rx 580 uses just 80-90w same as the garbage msi 480/580 I have.

Using a molex adapter when he has a pcie cable would be making things difficult.

Thanks for the replies everyone.

What is a good bios site for my still to arrive Powercolor Red Dragon rx470 for most efficient mining? The one that comes with the card isn't the fastest from what I read

Im used to most adapters using the molex connectors.

The 2 molex to 8pin actually costs less than the adapter that changes 6pin to 8pin at newegg and is likely safer. I ordered the 2molex > 8pin already. I'll still try it without the adapter, as I'm somewhat confident it shouldn't blow up my mobo, gpu, or psu. It shouldnt, right?

Shouldn't... but, are you really going to try it and take the chance? Report back and let us know how it works out either way. :)

I've got a 760 and a 770 that have ran for ages with a six pin connected in an eight pin slot. Granted that isn't mining, but if the question is "does it work" then in my experience yes, it works. Doesn't seem to hurt them under normal load.

Mining BIOS's are at a lower wattage than normal.

wouldn't a miner want to overclock the gpu and underclock the memory?

Right, so in theory if you had a mining bios on your card, it'd be even safer with a six pin plugged into an 8 pin socket right?

It depends on the coin, some coins like higher memory speeds while other like faster core speed.

It depends on the coin, some coins like higher memory speeds while other like faster core speed.

Well that settles it, make sure 8 pins are plugged in for best effect.

That really doesnt settle anything. The OP can still get away with using a 6pin. The coins that like higher memory speeds the core speed can be underclocked for lower power draw.
Or the bios can be modded to operate at lower power draw at stock speeds.

I'm curious if you do flash the cards with mining optimized bios, what impact will it have on gaming? Are you getting like 80% of the normal frame rates or worse?
