After the collapse of the Triton distribution service awhile back, it seemed (at least to me) that Prey fit perfectly in with Valve's Steam service. Well guess what? Tomorrow you can find Prey on Steam. And if you already own Prey either by retail or Triton you can add the game to your Steam list for free with your CDKEY. Here is the blurb on Steam's homepage:

Prey will be available Thursday, November 30 on Steam for $49.95. Previous purchasers of the retail or downloaded editions of Prey can activate a copy on Steam at no cost by using their existing product key.

im not a fan of steam, i have to be online to start hl2 which is a very silly concept if im playing ofline

That STEAM price is crazy. You can pick up a *hard* copy for EUR 20 /$ 25 in Europe, and I'm sure you can do the same in teh US. SO why would you want to spend DOUBLE that on the STEAM download?

I'm with Jock. I hate STEAM as an installation method. I'd much rather have physical copies that I can install/uninstall as I please, esp. when I rebuild the PC and/or trade the physical copy if its a game I don't like. STEAM is only OK for an updating service IMO.

^^And even as an updating service, it's still lacking. I hate Steam, guess I wont be playing Prey anymore. What a waste of $29. This just pisses me off.

You can create physical copies of all your games from STEAM. They have a utility right in there to do so. While, I like having physical copies of games, they also are vulnerable to being damaged, and taking up space. I've never had a problem with STEAM since it was first released.

I like steam except the fact that without a internet connection I can't play HL2.


Systems ran from CD's don't need a connection, but i got my games for free with my 9600XT and have kept them.

That seems a bit strange because I know I could when I was w/o inet on my laptop.
All you have to do is make sure you account data is saved on your PC (which is a bad idea for any public PC, but then again most internet cafés do have inet access...) and you started the game once while connected to the net.

The next time you fire up Steam, it will notify you of the lack of net access and ask you to start in offline mode.
Proceed and you will be able to play SP games without any internet.

Just keep in mind that if you do get online again, any updates initialized need to be finished 100% before offline mode will work again.
