PRIME Z390-P with I9-9990KF no longer overclocked....still random shut downs!! BURNING RUBBER>

thermaltake hasn't made decent stuff in at least 10 years
buy seasonic
something is probably smoked given the state of that connector
my guess is you lost a vrm stage and the board is in some kind of power limiting limp mode or is otherwise wounded
RIP

Whats your price range and what gpu exactly are you running Jwarnes71? We can help you find a solid replacement for that psu.

Keep your fingers crossed that nothing else has been damaged.

Toothless you mean while I opened it and worked on it?
Yep. Unless you're the engineer that worked on that model, don't open the PSU up. If it burns, return it and get something of actual quality.

may i recommend a Seasonic GX 750 for your system one of the most reliable PSUs on the market.

Throw that power supply out and buy a new one before you burn your house down.

Toothless you seem to have assumed or something that I opened it. No it's still got its warranty sticker on it. But I can't be arsed to exchange it, Ill probably just buy something more decent.

But I think damage is already done. Pc is running much better but has still crashed twice at moderate levels, so thinking i might only have left the CPU and RAM to save. Motherboard probably damaged by the electrical issues that connector caused.

Time for a new PC.
Careful of the quality of anything you buy these days!! So much of it is chinese bloody JUNK.

LOL i am glad that i still got all my 850 to 1600 watt psu's, from the only real psu makers on the planet which are old by now but still are king
For those that think an overpowered PSU uses too much power .... Your wrong it is hardly noticeable.
They just provide what is needed as they all are Gold labeled or better two of them Titanium.

Yes lol i bought a new cherry dekstop guess what it is now like logitech all chinese junk

Corsair AX and HX
BeQuiet dark power and straight power (platinum)
Seasonic PX and TX

I love seasonics never let me down in most servers i build i put in seasonic to make sure they last long

Ah yes, its a small 400mm long twin wire extension. I think I will remove it or beef it up, as this PC is better, but still running like dog shit.
It has reset and failed since the wiring repair a few times, and its never run stable over 125watts on the CPU.
Check the connection for CPU both the 24pin and 4x2 I suspect they're tarnished either on the motherboard or PSU side.

Difficult to clean but isopropyl and qtip or the connector itself to scrub the pins up.

This causes Overcurrent protection to kick in.

Possible, but it also could just be the cheap PSU.

Ok so someones comment earlier about the extension cable NOT to be used if possible as it introduces voltage drop and noise into the 12v line. And I noticed some berk at the PC shop put in a 2 to 4 connector at the motherboard power connector. So it basically had half the wiring needed to carry the correct current.
So even tho I was voiding my warranty of my PSU unit, I just went bugger it, and removed all of it and soldered and heatshrunk up a short as possible cable connector and with the full 8 wires (4 ov, 4 12v) wiring as short as possible, from the PSU to the 8 pin plug inlet.
Powered it up and I was suprised how much better it runs. I can now overclock it again. The noise in the temperature monitoring is gone. The software now runs correctly.
I am amazed how much these poeple in the PC shop are that put this stuff together dont care.

Another strange thing I noticed was it now idles at 6watts. Before the min was 30watts!!
