hi, i am having problems with downloading some discs onto my computer. they are PHILIPS CD-R's and when I try to download them it keeps saying "error downloading codec" and then it only plays the sound and not the actual video (which in my daughters case, is very VERY VERY important) . i was hoping some one could tell me what to do in order to get the discs going. by the way, there are other discs that do play the sound and video and are the same type of disc and were recorded on the same camera, so im assuming that there is a problem with the disc? dont know what to do !! :banghead::banghead::banghead: please reply before my daughter kills me!

The easiest thing to do is to download and use VLC Media player. It's handled any codec I've thrown at it and just works very well overall. :toast:

i asume these are home movies put onto a cd-r ? as talk about ripping copy protected discs on here isn't generaly allowed, sorry.gif

what i can tell you about is that some discs might not work because of damaged sectors i'e dead parts, their isn't really much you can do for discs like that except using sotware that bypasses the dead parts and reasembles them on your pc's harddrive
then you might be able to watch your discs

also it might be that

(a) you need to clean your pc's cd/dvd lens of dust

or

(b) you might need a new cd/dvd as the laser might be giving up

what type of camera is it ? as you might be able to google it to find out what type of codecs that were used :)

obviously, someone changed the camera settings, and the codec has been altered.

read the cameras manual/specs and find out what video format it records in, and you'll know what codecs you need.
