I've been playing PS1 games on my PS2 recently, and I read somewhere that going into the PS2's settings and changing the texture filtering from "standard" to "smooth" makes PS1 games look a lot better... and indeed it does. The only problem is, that setting doesn't stick. If I power down the console, then power it back on later, it gets reset back to standard. Is there any way to make that setting stick?

nope it has to be done manually as far as i remember, i just tend to run the old games on ePSX and PCSX2 since anisotropic filtering and AA does even better :toast: but yea has be manually selected.

honestly epsxe is better in every way. or if you have an android phone you can get fpsce for ps1 on the go.

I'd rather use my game console to play console games on, for a number of reasons... I just want this setting to stick.

Rip the games from your own disc and use ePSXe. The image quality is not comparable. If you have a decent sound set up, the sound is clearer too with the right plugin. After playing ePSXe, I can't believe I used to play the console @ 480i.

PCSX2 still needs improvement but if you have a high end system, you can run most games @ 100% speed.

Get a USB adapter for PS2 controllers, and you are set.
