PSU question. Help.

id go for the RM850 Gold only because have one for my test bench and its never let me down and its quiet.
I wonder why would they name a product Seasonic. It gives the impression of being as loud as a Katrina tsunami :D

yes its a strange name but are darn fine and Quiet PSUs my GX850 the fan only comes on when im in VR, mind you the corsair is as quiet.

Hi. Can i ask you something. We live in a country without many options to buy parts and if you find the part you want, prepare your wallet. My cousin wants to buy a PSU. It's between two options: 1) Thermaltake GF1 850W Gold and Corsair RM850 White Gold (2021 model). Which one do you recommend?
Both are great so no bad choice. Both made by CWT although the thermaltake competes more with the RMx line so gets a point there. I prefer Corsair more as a brand for their customer service but that's more for the states. I recommend both but your cousin can go with whichever is cheaper but like I said no wrong choice between the two.

He just text me. He found a RM850X (2021). I think this is the one to go, right? Thanks!

Do not use your Seasonic cables with Corsair psu or you'll have a barbecue.
Your PC will go Asado as Argentine say

Nooo. He will buy a PSU for himself with the respective PSU cables. I have my Seasonic, he'll have his Corsair. LOL!

company name most likely has something to do with their test equipment founding as "Seasonic" is the dba for the company but they separate the words as the official company name, Sea Sonic

The OP is taking care of so I'm circling back to this post

All because an avoidable issue hasn't manifested yet, doesn't meant that it won't appear in the future, especially when there are many other documented cases from other users telling about the same issue.
Using your own words (and I'm not disagreeing with you) we are establishing there may be an issue with the PSU line based on "documented cases from other users telling about the same issue"

useful or not, if these Tier lists post valid reasons why a PSU has a lower or higher Tier, especially when it is related to reproducible performance or reliability issues by many users, one should either avoid buying such power supplies or avoid situations which trigger such issues.
then why the "duck" is that line in the "Tier A High End" section of the list when it has "documented cases from other users telling about the same issue"

so maybe @Bill_Bright has a point that tier lists are flawed

Did you contact seasonic?
I did.. they were kind enough to suggest that maybe I undervolt my GPU...

Not the answer I was looking for.

Did they start off with asking "may you kindly"?

Ah, they basically wished you best of luck.

Did you try using a separate cable for each pin connectors rather than pigtail?

That is how it comes, no pigtails. It really is a nice unit if you don't have a modern GPU connected to it :D

I don't recall. It seemed like they didn't want to deal with it. Maybe it was just bad timing.

It is fine with a 980 Classified plugged into it

Bummer, all I told them is a 3080ti is shutting down my 850w unit they asked a couple of stupid questions and then offered a replacement.

Nice!

I told them what was going on, and that was the suggestion. Ahh well.. still have 10 years left on the warranty

Call them again, grow a moustache this time. May be someone else picks up the phone.

I agree, sometimes just getting a different agent makes a huge difference I also wonder if support is different for Canada would be a shame if so.

I’ll give it a whirl on the weekend, I was planning on it again sometime

Grow a moustache lol

Found this (outdated) PSU Tier List from LTT forums: https://linustechtips.com/topic/1116640-psu-tier-list-rev-148/

My PSU box said it was released in June, 2021. I think it's free of problems. I'm saying this for what i read in different forums (like OCs UK). I contacted Seasonic, but i think they'll respond next year.

PRIME models tend to have issues with a 3080/3090 GPU. This is what it says: Seasonic PRIME based units experience shutdowns with RTX3080/3090 (and possibly RX6900 XT) GPUs, especially ones with unlocked power limit like FE and ASUS Strix. It is recommended, if going with such units, to overprovision wattage, 1kW for RTX3080 and 1.2kW for RTX3090, or power-limit the GPU, or performing a 'dirty' fix of disconnecting a pin of 12V V-sense wire from PSU-side connector of 24-pin motherboard cable (courtesy of Jonny Guru). Units based on post-2018 revisions of Seasonic Focus platform and majority of units by other OEMs are not affected.

EDIT: Seasonic replied me this:

Your PSU is from 2021 and should not encounter any issue. Please note that the issue with RTX 3000 is not the PSU itself but the power excursions (peak) that these cards have and that are outside ATX specifications.
This said, with your PC specs, it should be all good. Make sure to power your card as per our recommendations though:
