Question about memory speed

Hi. My memory runs at 6-6-6-17@1117 1,5v for now. Is there any gain (especially in folding) moving from there to 1500@9-9-9-24 or higher and even looser timings? My ram is Crucial 6gb 1333 9-9-9-24 1,5v.

Another thing. When i try to go beyond 1500, at any timings or voltages, i lose a 2gb stick and boot into windows with only 4gb. Cpu-z shows 6144 mb of ram, but the windows task manager only uses 4gb. What is happening. Motherboard is EVGA X58 sli, bios date 30-06-10 (can't find number).

I don't know much about folding specifically but as for any gains from raising clock speed and loosening timings you'll have to run benchmarks such as AIDA64 and check the numbers. Lower latency is generally important too.

As for your other issue not sure offhand; others will pipe in.

You may need to increase Vtt/PCI-E voltage again to support that extra speed as greater demands are being placed on the memory controller.

I cannot speak for folding but the i7 Platform loves bandwidth and often (but not always) prefers higher bandwidth over lower timings. Maybe post over in the crunching threads to find out their experiences.

Ok. Done a few hours of testing. First, my memory suck big time. Cannot go any higher than 1550@9-9-9-24 even at 1,65v. Damn. Second, You're right with the bandwith needs of the platform in general. Never though that just changing from 1160 to 1524 could do something that i would actually feel. It resulted in only 2 gb more of bandwith, 15.9-15.5-21 according to aida64, for read, write and copy, but everything seems a little bit more snappy. Thanks Tatty_One for the idea!
