Q3 2022 Discrete GPU Market Share Report: NVIDIA Gains 88% Market Share Hold, AMD Now at 8% Followed By Intel at 4% (wccftech.com)

Things are looking very grim for AMD - bankruptcy just in sight?

Market share for AMD reported to be extremely low - I think it had never been that low prior to this report!

nvidia - 88%
AMD - 8%

Intel - 4%

Graphics cards shipments are down with no hopes for a better future:

"During Q3 2022, total PC GPU shipments declined by -25.1% (Y/Y) out of which desktop graphics saw a -15.43% decline and notebook graphics saw a -30% decline."

"So coming to the discrete GPU market share numbers, the report tells us that the dGPU shipments decline to 14 million units versus 24 million units in the previous year. That's a drop of -41.6% & is quite massive if you consider that the third quarter is usually the strongest growth quarter for PCs. During this quarter, NVIDIA managed to raise its market hold to 88%, a record number followed by AMD whose market hold declined to single-digit figures of just 8%."

I doubt AMD are going bankrupt. All they need to do is remind flagship over-obsessed tech / journalisty sites that "Ultra Mega Leet Even Realer than Real Gamers!" who buy RTX 4090's make up less than 2% of the market, and aim for "keeping it real" pricing for the other 98%...

Price, I want my video controls back, and I need to have a AMD person take my place on two boards, help raise two teens and pay for my remodel to be done out of their pocket so I have the time and money, I will still be doing remodel work though cause I’m retentive like that.

Both my kids want newer phones, or a new Xbox, they are fine using a chrome book or their phones for school work, they don’t game on computers. I feel the gaming community is growing but primarily with consoles and the mining craze didn’t help at all. We may never recover the ability to slap a GPU into a basic computer and play interesting games that are too demanding for consoles again.

PhysX only works on CPU in DX12, completely useless to include with any raytracing game. It's completely turned into garbage with DX12 & the low lever A.P.I. I'm pretty sure that physX on cpu with raytracing can be traced back to poor frame times too. As it would causes sycrnoization problems with the image & output of the image.

How about Nvidia fix their overhead on their drivers back to the RTX 2080 ti, Not just the RTX 4090.

Elmer FUD go back inside, it's not wabbit season yet. Seriously, spreading this kind of narrative is incredibly misleading. AMD still drove a +29% revenue gain in Q3. Radeon is not their core earner anymore, this isn't 2015.

The graphics division is reporting losses. It can't forever be subsidized by the other divisions.

Link?
Everything I've heard is that RTG is doing well, relatively. Yes, their revenues are down from last year with the ETH mining boom but their losses aren't as bad as Nvidia's losses this quarter.

AMD graphics are doing fine, they have all three console manufacturers locked into contracts, their 6000-series cards sold out for the majority of their launch year, and their APUs are common in budget desktop and laptop segments which although have tight margins, are still marketshare taken away from Intel because of the IGPs being good enough to save on a dGPU.

Lower prices but most importantly release normal graphics cards, not all of us need gimmick tracing and gaming "features". AMD has to stop believing all its customers are gamers.

I don't see any losses there reported by "the graphics division" (RTG) at all.
That financial statement splits RTG across three sectors that I can see:
  • Datacenter GPUs
  • Client (desktop and mobile APUs with Vega and RDNA2 IGPs) - plenty of profit, though less this year than last year for obvious reasons.
  • Gaming (dGPUs and console contracts) - plenty of profit, though less as a fraction of net revenue because console chips are low-margin, high-volume contracts.
The "All Other Operating loss" is spread across the whole company for everything, and it's usual to report it like that. It covers overheads that aren't directly linked to their segment breakdowns and aren't attributable to product or service sales directly. In this case, the overwhelming majority of that $1.5 billion is a portion of the Xilinx buyout, which AMD paid an estimated $50 billion for, in share value. It has absolutely nothing to do with RTG whatsoever (yet).

I'm basically giving you the chance to prove that your original statement wasn't FUD, and having failed that task I'm now giving you one more chance. Where, exactly are AMD's graphics division reporting losses? All the evidence publicly posted (and audited) as legally required states the exact opposite - that AMD are profitable with solid margins across all three company sectors involving RTG.

Already switched to Radeon. Reason for this was not so much for performance reasons - switching from RTX 2070 to 6900 XT is definitely an upgrade apart from raytracing, something that I do not care about right now at all - but the behavior of nVIDIA lately and that I am not willing to support anymore after about having used nVIDIA GPUs for about 15 years in a row.

I bought a 6750 xt this week because the price dropped below $400. That is top tier performance per dollar available right now. I am upgrading from a 1060 3gb.

Over the pandemic, AMD couldn't build as many GPU's as nvidia and they were priced poorly. Their market share WOULD go down in those conditions. I expect their market share to increase if they don't have supply issues and they are priced competitively. I don't give a damn about raytracing, DLSS, or whatever software nvidia has. I want competitive performance per dollar, which is not in Nvidia's business model anymore.

well i am glad i bought a RX 6700 XT then ... (even more as it was 25$ lower than a reference model MSRP ... @450$~)

depending on the price, i doubt tho the card i have suits all my needs, the RX 7900 XT is interesting but the RX 7700 XT feel an unworthy successor to the RX 6700 XT given the specs ...

dunno, AMD is still competitive, in the server side and gaming side but seems the general masses have been "brainwashed" with "IntVidia is better!"
also the current world situation is heavily taxing for all tech companies ...

i am not a red fanboy, but i will support them given how much they did these last years with Ryzen and RDNA
so far a walk in the park ... RSR, FSR and even RT performances (not that i use or really care for RT) are good to me (2880x1620p) the R5 3600 is still plenty good and i plan to get a 5800X3D once a good opportunity come up ...

AMD needs to fire whoever is their lead of Marketing. Where are the Movie Theater AMD commercials when Marvel or WB movies are in the theatre. Where are AMD commercials during the World Cup? Where are AMD commercials on Youtube? Where is the real AMD Youtube channel that promotes Radeon. Where is the customer outreach to give online feedback on what makes AMD good?

Where is the customer research, they have a YouTube channel, it should be better.theres a team Red and another wider version, and you have customer feedback direct links IN driver, perhaps the community needed to lift the blinkers.

This poll looks like it's set up by an Nvidia shill.

AMD is doing fine with it's GPUs, at least from a technical and pricing standpoint, which is what I care about. They just need to keep releasing new innovative products. I note the 7000 series will be in the hands of consumers shortly which is a good thing.

Where is the customer research, they have a YouTube channel, it should be better.theres a team Red and another wider version, and you have customer feedback direct links IN driver, perhaps the community needed to lift the blinkers.
I know they have a Youtube channel that feels to be honest forgotten. The 30 second to 2 minute videos are not interesting. Sapphire has a much more interesting channel for AMD Graphics. When I said customer feedback I actually meant it as testimonials that you plug into halftime that are people recording using there own software. AMD software has some killer features but I think only Hardware Unboxed has done a deep dive on that. It feels like they are not even trying in some ways. I would already have had a testimonial video submitted by users on what makes the X3d chip so good for Gaming. And a rebuff on why the 6500Xt is a decent GPU.
