Edit 4: Ran Division 2 for the last 40ish minutes and just ran around doing random stuff to put a normal amount of load on the card. Max hot spot/junction temp = 71c | Max GPU temp = 43c | Max Memory temp = 43c | Max GPU frequency = 2056MHz (no idea how this happened, it's set at 1925MHz) | Max Mem frequency = 1190MHz (again, not sure why/how as it is set at 1100)
AMD's new boost mechanism works more like how nVidia does it.
The boost clocks can exceed the clocks set if the card is cool enough and there is enough power limit.

First, my wife of 45 years and I have a deal. She doesn't ask what I spend on computer parts and I don't ask what she spends at Talbot's on clothes or on shoes etc:D

Second, I used Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut and was liberal with it to be sure there was coverage.

Third, I was careful with overclocks. Nothing crazy or prolonged. I was noticing problems when playing online games such as COD WWII. I would start the game and would have the computer freeze or reboot. Tried other Video cards and all worked well. I took off the waterblock and replaced it with the original heatsink but experienced the same problem regardless of the rig I was running it in.

Thus the RMA.

The issue with random reboots and freezing was what led me to start looking into what was happening. I had the same exact issue, and then noticed the junction temps being very high for being on water; as soon as I lowered clocks back to stock with the 960mv undervolt, it stopped happening and was fully stable again. Hoping things stay normal with the graphite pad I'm using for now.

Those graphite pads arent some miracle (rather opposite) and Kryonaut is probably as good or better. Was your GPU itself (with memory) as a block, or it had some gaps between memory and GPU?

The HM03 is kind of a miracle when it comes to uneven surfaces like the vega gpu/hbm combo; it's flexible, and it has much higher heat transfer properties than any not metal paste. It's why they chose it specifically for this application. With the hot spot the way it is, even kryonaut is not a good substitute for the stock thermal pad.

Hm, I kinda doubt that miracle thing, but ofc, its possible.

Guess another good reason to buy nVidia. Even with their glued shit..

Kyronaut being so runny can cause issues in this case.
Other "thicker" thermal paste might be better.

Miracle is a little bit of an overstatement, but it is by far the best option for the way the Vega gpu/memory combo has uneven surfaces. Now if only there was a way to actually get a replacement pad.
