Realtek R2.16 X-Fi mod driver

Problem here

Hi !

First of all, I want to thank you for the driver, it sounds much better on my HP dv9500 notebook.

I also downloaded X-Fi Software using the link provided in the first post, I have installed all the applications using SETUP.EXE (I couldn't find any APPSETUP.EXE in there) but it doesn't see my card. When I start Audio Console, I choose "RUN TRIAL" when asked, but then I get "The audio device supported by this application is not detected". I also get low-pitched sound. I tried both versions of the drivers from the first post. R2.21 Driver installed ok, but when I restarted, I had no sound and yellow exclamation mark in Device Manager over Realtek X-fi Device. I have ALC268 CODEC and I'm using Windows XP SP3.

Again... I refer to the first post. Make sure your Codec is a HDA chip, the driver will not work with a AC97 chip.

Will this combo (modded drivers + creative's console) give me 5.1 audio output over S/PDIF (from Vista apps other than a DVD already encoded with DD audio)?

Nope.
A) creative console doesn't work (very well or at all) on vista.
B) Realtek onboard solutions only do what they say on the tin. In other words, unless it's high end it won't be able to do 5.1 encoding on it's own.

Joy. Not. :(

Guess that moves me towards a software solution then (AC3Filter). Not exactly optimal but I'm too cheapskate to even get a $60 sound card (and also have no expansion slots other than USB on my system).

Depends on your setup. I have my onboard pass through ac3 into amp with dts/dd decoder. Works rather well for me.

Setup: RealTek ALC888 (dualbooting Win7/Vista)

Only audio output is via toslink (S/PDIF) to a 5.1 receiver (which handles DD/DTS among others).

Using VMC/7MC playback of DVD gives me 5.1 audio (expected... since audio is already encoded as DD/DTS and no decoding done, simple passthrough)

Anything else: stereo. (WMP, system sounds, etc.) And this is the problem I'm trying to solve... thought the modded drivers + console could help... now about to try AC3Filter to see if that sorts me out.

Thanks for the replies.

Yeah, I don't think for anything else than the already encoded in 5.1 is going to output in 5.1

I just let games/normal media output in stereo, then use pro logic on my amp to upscale it to 5.1

I've seen the x-fi do 5.1 in games on vista, but I don't think the Realtek is capable.

Don't expect miracles and breathtaking audio from a on-board Realtek chip of all codecs, they suck. The point in the modded driver is just to squeeze every possible bit of quality out of the chip. If you want true stunning sound buy a Asus Xonar DX.

Wasn't expecting breathtaking audio (If I wanted that I'd get a stand-alone card, not onboard)... but was hoping for at least 5.1 via S/PDIF. Ah well.

Thanks for the help though... at least I have a better understanding of the entire process now.

I already have a audigy-se converted to x-fi here. Is there any way to use the same audio console to control both the off-board sound card and the onboard card??? I tried to install using the footsteps reported here, but then it doesn't recongnize the audigy-se...
After i undid everything i could see that the program is the very same!!! For the x-fi MB, real x-fi and x-fi audio... Then i guess i could just add a line to wherever it is at the register or the ini file.

Any help here?????

creative patched the X-Fi software a little while after the audigy SE to X-fi drivers were made so it dosen't detect it

I ran the CTAudCS that was in the "x-fi MB" folder and it detected the audigy-se as x-fi xtreme audio and worked without problems, unless when i reinstalled everything it also replaced the other exes...
So is there any way to use the old audio console to detect the realtek x-fi too???

the dll's aren't there, and the other software dosen't install the driver component, but hey, give it a shot:)

Again... I refer to the first post. Make sure your Codec is a HDA chip, the driver will not work with a AC97 chip.

It is HDA. When I uninstall the original driver named REALTEK HD AUDIO, the device is shown up as Audio Device on HD Audio Bus. So it is HDA. What should I try ?

Standard install procedure. Remove drivers via add/remove programs, clean up any remnants with driver cleaner pro, run the installer the modded drivers come with. Do NOT use the crapative software if you are running Vista, I'm getting seriously fed up of saying this in this thread but, IT DOES NOT WORK ON VISTA, it is creatives fault, not mine, nothing you can do about it.

Ketxx does the Realtek software work for doing EQ, per-speaker volume controls and all that when the X-Fi drivers are installed?

I haven't used a Realtek HD chip yet, so I don't even know what the software is like.

oooooh.... does that mean you're not impressed with

a) someone else's efforts or

b) your own inabilities of getting your soundcard to work correctly?

Diff strokes for diff peeps.....

Well it worked for me (onboard) therefore I can't knock it and my sound output is louder! so thumbs up from me!

Suppose it won't work for everyone I guess! (bit like most things...)

realtek's own CP lets you change per speeker volume as well as the whole gambit of other options one would expect from a modern audio solution.

and ket, how would you know its all creatives fault? you dont got vista, and refuse to install anything vista based to try and debug your driver mods(ooo a name change and low level EQ tweak.....*yawn*)

I tryed 3 versions of your drivers, and havent been impressed, was kinda novel seeing it say realtek x-fi for device name, but other then that......i get the same result from tweaking my EQ, without the risk of stability issues and without the hassle of having to tell windows that i really do want to install unsigned drivers.

Your a bit of a twat, aren't you? Obviously you missed the RMAA results that were done that undeniably prove the tweaks improve audio. As I said, the driver does not perform miracles, it does however eek every last bit out of a on-board codec, which is its purpose and a purpose it does well. I have also said I used Vista, I do not like it. Huge pain in the arse. Nobody is complaining about the audio once people realise they need to disable driver signing and their happy. Its also very easy for any idiot to realise the crapative EQ won't work in Vista down to issues it has with that OS. Go on, go nuts with the software, install any plethora of drivers you want, it won't make a difference. Feel free to look at the installer files as well as clearly you have no comprehension of whats what. You sound very much like your narked because your envious of something you can't do, regardless of how simple it is. Thats just sad.

they are just playa hating, im a supporter and user of these drivers they make my speakers a slightly bit better overall from bass to volume, slight but noticeable

as for the headphones i can say that with my new motherboard and the drivers its crisp and clear compared to vanilla and ac97 on my back up pc

I know, but people like weesel are pathetic. They run their keyboard without even knowing the full facts, nevermind understanding them.

it is creatives fault it doesnt work in vista. I dont believe it even works with the intended onboard soundcard this software was made for.

Frying: just stop. ket's drivers have had positive feedback from a lot of users, so he's not just making things up here. Sure anyone can do it with some copypasta skills, but ket got in there first, and uploaded his work to help others.

Ket: Try not to call people names. Just think them really loudly or something.

Ok, but when using his drivers he has had crashes, even if he refuses to relate the crashes to said drivers, the fact that they happen and he refuses to do anything to exclude them, well i think people should be warrned.

Thats not what you've been talking about. You've been bashing ket personally, and not warning people about the fact the modded drivers "may" cause issues.

Weesel, stop trolling.

I think Ket is doing some cool stuff here. Vista has some issues to be sure, but I just chose to buy an alternative branded card for my machine.

But for people who have Realtek stuff and use XP this is like a goldmine.
