Report: NVIDIA Not Unveiling 2018 Graphics Card Lineup at GDC, GTC After All

They have to stay within a certain price point to make $. An insane spec console would fail, as not everyone is rich.

And making few high end consoles is questionable because mass production brings costs down. If you make just 500 top end consoles, the costs probably wouldn't even be covered by the final price. Then again, maybe that could work, having 2 or 3 models of same console. Basic, High and Top end where basic one ensures running all their games at certain level where higher ones add higher framerate and resolutions. Because for this to work the games could essentially all be the same and would work on all consoles equally. I mean, someone with 1080p LCD TV doesn't need a 4K capable console because games wont' really run any faster given they have framerate capped at 30fps in most cases. Unless they'd unlock this as well. If 4K capable console uses 1080p screen, cap framerate to 60fps instead of 30fps. It's relatively simple thing...

Plus many more that are native 4K

Not quite , many of those games operate with a dynamic resolution or use sparse rendering. Not to mention that more often than not they also fail to hit 30fps at all times which is a clear sign that the hardware is pushed way beyond what it can really do. And the few games that do run at pure native 4K and 30fps aren't that impressive visually to beginning with.

No matter how you spin it the Xbox One X is not a proper 4K machine and shouldn't really be looked upon as such.

Upscaling 1280x720 textures totally counts!

am i unusual in the sense i dont lust after the latest cpu or gpu to arrive.. all it does for me is to hammer home the fact that i aint keeping up and the hardware i was quite happy with i will no longer be happy with..

i just "upgraded" my kabylake system to a now current coffeelake system.. do i need those extra cores.. nope but i felt the need to buy them..

i currently have a pair of 1070 gpus.. do i need a new generation of gpu.. nope but if one arrives i will feel the need to buy it..

i am old enough to know how it all works and know there will never be an end to it.. but for sure i aint immune to it..

when i first started "gaming" it was with a thing that had two vertical lines each side of a black and white screen.. a little square ball moved between those two lines i think it was called ping or maybe pong.. he he

then it was square blocky tanks that fired square balls at each other.. i was an early adopter.. he he..

what the f-ck i am now i havnt a clue.. but i am quite happy with the hardware i have and aint in the slightest bothered by the fact that the next generation of (feel the need to buy) hardware is a bit delayed.. :)

long live the delay..

And most of these are not demanding, indie or older titles. In Shadow of Mordor, the Xbox One X skimps on ALOT of graphic options when going "native 4K" and Quality mode is prefered, which is using dynamic res.

I don't really care if it's native 4K or not tho. I'm fine with dynamic res. In the end PS4 Pro and Xbox One X runs much higher res than PS4 and Xbox One, which was the whole point. The difference is obvious on a big 4K/UHD TV. I have 65 inch and it's very obvious. Base PS4 and Xbox One runs most games DEMANDING in 720p-900p, PS4 Pro and Xbox One X is at least 1080p and mostly 1440p-2160p. It's a huge boost over the old ones.

People seem to forget that PS4 Pro and Xbox One X pretty much only came out because of the increased resolution on TV's... Using 720p-900p on a 4K/UHD TV looks kinda bad, even with upscaling.

No matter how you slice it Xbox One X/PS4 Pro is as capable as my 1060 when it comes down to 4K.

Which isn't much.

Competition from AMD is low??? And yet amd smacked nvidia in q4.. Dear Site you your quality has dropped significantly

You might want to check numbers again. Nvidia had 10 times the operating income, coming on double the revenue, over 10 times the per share earnings.

Both have more Raw performance and VRAM
Optimization of Pc will never match that of a console

No you are not haha. If it wasn't for mining and the fact that I could sense a MASSIVE gpu price hike coming, I would still be using my R9 Fury I got for $300 in 2016!

I will never understand why so many people feel it makes any sense to pay $1000 for a new graphics card every year that only brings a 20-30% performance increase.... Heck I remember the days when I was stingy about paying $500 for a 50% increase!!!

its certainly not worth it for the performance upgrade.. which leaves only one other reason.. that weird feeling that you aint keeping up and need to be doing.. he he..

i genuinely in everyday use cant tell the difference between my (old) kabylake system and my (new) coffeelake system.. :)

As it happens this time around it kind of does , both use pretty much the same hardware and APIs. There aren't many games I can't run at 4K30 on at least high settings.

Lol, fuck you dude. Yes I'm a gamer who wants to use gaming cards to game. If that makes me greedly, then you must be greedy as fuck. Using shampoo to wash your hair must also be a ridiculous proposition to you.

But what if it turned out you could power newer cars with Shampoo and get 100 MPG? What if that happened?

You would have to be an idiot to use that for your hair....
