This confused me so much, til i realised as a mod i probably have access to them anyway

They've always been invisible while being worked on, early access for supporters seems reasonable to me (a day? a week? who knows)

may be if you add "work in progress. expected release date:...." or "work in progress. NDA until ....." after the line of dots that separate title section from the body of the review it will be more clear for ppl clicking on those review links that those reviews are not finished yet. because it seams "preliminary" watermark is not enough

The problem is that I usually don't know until the day they are posted.

NDA reviews aren't listed at all, becuase that would be breaking the NDA.

well you can add the part with release date later when you have some approximated schedule for next week or 2 weeks for example.
and ofc date can be changed in case rescheduling is needed.
or you can skip release date part at all and leave just "work in progress". i doubt anyone will complain about paywall if it clear that it give access to something that is NOT FINISHED yet, rather then blocking the review content.
on the other hand whatever you do there will always be someone who will complain about it so you might just do whatever you think is best and be

Because there is no discussion. There are only people who complain about free content because it isn't available when they want it to be (SHOCK HORROR OUTRAGE ENTITLEMENT); and the rest of us who appreciate that what TPU does is actually not free, and that we should be thankful that we are in fact able to access it for nothing.

When you own TPU or become an admin/moderator, you can make those decisions. Until then, they will close and/or merge threads as they see fit.
I believe both of these have merit right along with the above too.
There are several ways it can be viewed.

The overriding thing is the fact it's up to the Admins in how to handle it, ultimately it's their place - Their call.

I do agree stating it's an unfinished review may help alleviate some of the issue (Confusion) so the reader knows it for what it is at the time it's seen.
And the above is also right, no matter who does what regarding how things are done there is always going to be "The One" that has a problem with it, justified or not.

So.....
All I can say is the guys here have done a great job, we need to appreciate what they do and realize the terms of it.

One point I can make is I used to be staff elsewhere myself and know exactly how it is.

Any choice made isn't going to be perfect and yes, you can nick-pick things in how it's not a good choice but understand one's singular view is just that, it's not the complete picture nor the best vantage point to even see it.

We're not perfect and that's just how it is but the staff here or anywhere else does what they think is the best even if it should ruffle a few feathers and frankly, that's what they need to do - Make the choice and be done with it.
Concerning a site this large with the traffic volume it has you simply can't please everyone even though you'd like to.

There are a few things I don't agree with myself I've seen here but then again it's not up to me, the choice has been made by the staff and that's it so I'll get over it - Already have in fact.

As for folks wanting everything their way right now, all I can say to that is get over it (Yourself) or move on - It's nothing anyone really wants to happen but that plays right back to the staff making a choice they believe is the best overall. Ultimately it has to be done and whether or not it pleases someone is subject to interpretation by the individual alone.

As for those who support the site, I agree they should get a little something in return vs those that do not contribute, it still costs money to keep the lights on here and their help goes to that end.

Anything regarding what goes behind the scenes we don't know about and frankly, we shouldn't because we're not involved with the day to day operation of it - Just enjoy the site for what it is and let the staff sweat the details.

~End.

This was just discussed a few days ago: https://www.techpowerup.com/forums/threads/reviews-only-available-to-gold-supporters.269337/

Regarding Monster Labo specifically, I wanted to post Montech Fighter today, because it has been in the q for 2 weeks now, this week we also have two NDA case reviews coming up, so Monster Labo isn't happening this week
I have no problem with Patreon previews, which I feel are clearly marked as “Early Access” and “Preliminary.” Maybe you could add a bold, declarative “this is an unfinished and unedited preview of our review blah blah for Patreon members only” banner or box to the beginning of the preview review, before the introduction, for those who are unsure what they’re looking at.

What this discussion raises for me though is your publishing schedule. It sounds like the release schedule is based more on meeting some maximum number of articles per week rather than just putting out content as it’s complete.

Wouldn’t it be more profitable (and more competitive) to release them as they are complete? Or am I just reading too deep between the lines? In any case, thanks for the content!

This is a very good question, and one that probably nobody has a definitive answer to.

I'm trying to space reviews from the same category apart a bit, so that people aren't flooded with 390547495874 GPU reviews, for example... they'll read one, maybe two of them, so lose-lose-lose (no traffic for us, no info for the reader, no exposure for the mfgr).

Also I rather have a constant stream of two reviews per day (trying to post around 3 PM CET and 11 PM CET), than a ton of reviews on one day and nothing on other days.

Reviews for major products will be able to jump the queue, NDA reviews get posted on NDA time, no delays here. There's also some sympathy for our advertisers (just in term of scheduling, not content or verdict).
