So I RMA'd my i7 2600K and was sent a replacement. When I received it this morning I noticed it's an i7 in i5 packaging. Marking on the processor is i7 and so are the stickers, but with the wrong packaging I'm a little confused.

Should I use it because it's i7 or should I return yet again? Don't know if it affects my warranty.

Looks like a genuine i7. Still I would contact Intel about your problem, now that the packaging is still closed.

Why did you RMA your i7 in the first place? Just wondering :)

i would use it but let intel know of this mistake, if it is a real 2600k no wrries

Cause of this in WCG section

I killed the i7 2600K :shadedshu

Great start to the year lol. Now got to wait till end of month before I can afford any new ones (which I won't kill).

Gonna try it, but I doubt overvolting allows me to keep my warranty.

EDIT: 1000th Post! Lol what a bad one to have

Cool, cheers that give me some hope at least.

It was DOA what you talking about?:D;)

Hope it works.

i get the feeling this may have somethign to do with the recall, perhaps intel has stopped shipping new cpu's out since there's no boards for them until april and this was your support guy's way of getting your rma past the blockade.

funny but functional.

I think that even Intel employees (or whoever manages the boxing) have no clue of the present chipset/socket/processor naming mix up!!! PWND!

Install it and see what CPUz says, should be a 2600K tho

That's the thing I'm in doubt about. I don't want to invalidate my warranty over that. Don't even know if does.

Contacted the retailer to see what they recommend. Just a pain to have it there and not being sure whether to open it or leave it. Urge to install is soo strong!

I would install it and play dumb if they make an issue of it. It's not your fault that you ran home, opened and installed your new CPU without reading the box first

Maybe try to RMA it again? Where did you buy it in the first place?

asus does the same thing they reuse boxes that are laying around. got my m4a78t-e in a m3a78 box its no harm no foul just them reusing a box.

I'd love to see the face of one of those "Watch my supergreat supermovie superuseless UNBOXING Youtube video" when they get the wrong box, lol

does the code on the box match the code on the chip?

Got a reply from the retailer finally, they said as long as the sticker and CPU match that my warranty is valid.

does the code on the box match the code on the chip?

It does! :rockout:

Seems like Intel just run out of boxes
