Hi,

I'm currently looking at expanding my network coverage and need a new router. I am looking at the following 2:

Tenda AC23: https://www.tendacn.com/en/product/AC23.html
TP-Link TL-WDR7651

The TL-WDR7660 or 7661 are also options.

Any idea which would be better? I'm having difficulty finding info on the TP-Link ones.

Scrap consumer routers, as they are unstable, insecure, and quite limited. Getting a DDWRT flashable router or a Ubiquiti unifi system is much better and much more secure, as they have enterprise based security and VLAN controls as well as advanced RF tools to keep your network in tippy toppy shapey.

For roughly 300-500 you can pick up a decent kit of a router, PoE switch, and 2 APs (and the PoE converters from 24v passive to 802.3af/AT) and that's the same as one "high end" consumer router that will have dropped updates after 5 months or not even a single firmware upgrade to mitigate security risks or add features. Ubiquiti updates a lot. (Please note: I do not work for Ubiquiti or any router hardware manufacturer)

You could try Mercku´s mesh (Canadian) .....been running with the M2 router and 4 Bee´s for a year now. Very good throughput and coverage.

Sorry, I should have been a little more clear in my OP, I'm not actually bothered about the routing functionality for the time-being as a have an R7000 flashed with DD-WRT to handle that. I'm mainly interested in using it as a wifi range extender and gigabit switch.the cheapest 10-port Gigabit switch I can find is $25, these cost $30-$45 so it's a no brainer to go with this over a regular switch.
