i have a netgear rangemax wpn824V2 . the problem is that i cant connect to tha internet. the modem works fine. its the router thats causing me problems.

ok so my internet icon is YELLOW, my computer ports, power, and wireless are green. i plugged everything together and my computer says the "local area connection connected" but i cant connect to the internet. (aim..internet explroer..etc,)

any suggestions on what i can do?
i already tried restarting modem and router. the problem still occours

try reseting the modem and router.

sorry didn't read the bottom of the post. Have you talked your internet company to make sure that the internet is up?

My internet this morning was down and up, I'd conenct, 5 minutes later disconnect for about a few minutes.

yeah the internet is up in my area..right now i am directly connected to the modem.. my brother is offline while im tryna fix the problem.

your internet icon is yellow? that more times then not means you have no ip given to the computer. try this. power down the computer and unplug the network cable. then do the same on the modem and router. turn the modem on and wait til it has connected. then turn on the router and once it boots up connect it to the modem. after those two are set turn on your pc and after everything looks like its done plug your pc into the router

tried using the netgear console? on mine (totally different model but might be the same console) if you type the router IP into your browser it comes up with name and password (should be in manual if there is a console, second thought, have you read the manual :D ) then you get onto console screen and edit internet settings. All i can think of.

ill give it a try.

did you reflash the firmware

same thing. flashing refers to clearing the bios and updating it.

Try to find out what type of internet you use...I know on my router, you have to go into WAN settings, and configure whether your internet is Dynamic IP, Static IP, and PPPoE. Most Cable is Dynamic IP, and most DSL is PPPoE. For a PPPoE connection, you have to tell the router your user name and password before it will even think about connecting you to the internet. Also, make sure DHCP server is enabled, or else it won't give your network IP addresses. If there is an option in your router that lets you connect or disconnect from your WAN port, make sure that it says "connected" lol.

thats what im thinkin it is zek the dhcp. he said "ok so my internet icon is YELLOW"

yeah. tried that. stil ldoesnt work.:shadedshu

did u reset the router? theres usually a button on the back that will return it to default.

yeah. i did . millions of times..

i guess ill jsut call the dsl people again tomorrow..
half of the stuff they tell u to fix. are already correct.
lmao.

Are you pressing the reset button while everything is on and connected and hold it for 30 seconds-ish? That fixed my problem.

Call your 1-800 phone number for your internet provider is a free call. Mine did that when first installed and they had me go to a place in the counsel and add the router. Took 5 minutes total with hold time, worked ever since.

Do you live in the UK or USA? If you live in the UK, there's a special WAN protocol called PPTP you have to use...I know I'm reaching for more outlandish possibilities all the time . Like Kenny said, make sure you're holding the reset button on each device for AT LEAST 30 seconds. Otherwise the router will just blink at you.

Ok, is this a new router that your installing? If so, make sure you have set up the network properly. What you gotta do is go into network connections. on the left panel, click "set up a home or small office network".

Now, go thru the wizzard and when you get to the "select a connection method" screen (3rd screen) and MAKE SURE you select "other" and then "this computer connects directly thru a network hub....blah blah".

Follow the wizard on all comps hooked up to the router, making sure you type the same wrokgroup, etc.

Hope this helps :)

Cheers :toast:
