Simple - lousy, low quality Norton antivirus.

You might want to report this to the antivirus makers for a fix.

Please note both of Microsoft Defender as well as Kaspersky Cloud Free have no such issues.

No such problem on my main machine (Win10 64-bit). Could be a user case, but it'd be interesting to know what caused this issue.

EDIT: Checked three other PCs running Win7 64-bit. Also no problem.

His real time protection auto-protect is off and his removable media scan is off

So basically he turned his AV off.

You are of course correct. GPU-Z might, or might not be the culprit here.
Still, as GPU-Z uses a low-level, system driver to access GPU info, I would not rule out this causing an issue with/in Norton Antivirus.

( Obviously, only in certain scenarios and not on all PCs/laptops running Norton on Windows OS in the world.

Yeah norton wouldn't like being turned off and probably is making the issue worse
Think everyone has at one time used norton
Only good thing would be the cloud backup otherwise not worth the $$

Got my 10 PC annual subscription from a reseller for the equivalent of USD 25, including 23% tax. That's about $2/month with 25 GB cloud backup. Since most of my PCs run Win7, Norton serves as an additional layer of protection for the aging OS. And they even supported WinXP until August this year!

Yep have 4 win-7 computers but I use malwarebytes pro for a long time after I dumped norton long ago
Best purchase/ switch I've ever made actually four licenses back in the day were 20.us+- a pop with no subscription and three installs same key :cool:

Use it on 10 and even win-11 to.
Now mbam premium is yearly subscription
