RX 7900 XT Cant flash XTX bios.

I'm wanting to flash the bios of the XFX merc 310 7900XTX onto my XFX merc 310 7900XT and it wont let me flash the bios onto it saying the SSID is not the same. If there is any way around this that would be great.

Sate my curiosity, what's the point of doing this? Even if you do manage to flash it (little I found on the internet, mostly Reddit, says it doesn't work through software), it won't unlock shaders, any extra memory, or make your card faster in the slightest. You could get more power limit by flashing a different 7900 XT's BIOS, but I don't have the faintest clue why would you want to flash a 7900 XTX BIOS onto a XT. It's not like the Vega 56 with Samsung HBM where you could at least get the faster timings of the 64 (despite the fact shaders didn't unlock with that one either).

I see, in that case, you're probably better off trying the VBIOS of a higher-end XT, perhaps the Sapphire Nitro+ or the PowerColor Red Devil? Those should at least match the same core type and memory capacity, with the same base ID so it'll probably allow the crossflash within the same model.

TPU doesn't seem to have many verified BIOSes for the XT, hopefully someone who owns one can drop in the thread and upload their card's BIOS for you. That would probably be the safest, good luck

You likely do not want to do this. You will not 'unlock' anything other than potentially higher max voltage/power, at best.
but... If you do: The "right way" is an actual SPI ROM programmer (like CH341A).

The "other way" involves some seriously convoluted steps, of both:
creating and tailoring a 'spoof' file to circumvent amdvbflash's safeties
and
mix-and-matching an Asus-specific version of amdvbflash, and the commonly available one.

Once 'successful', you'll probably find the card won't want to initialize on POST after a cold shutdown.
(at least my Nitro+ w/ a software-flashed Aqua vBIOS doesn't)

Even flashing between brands and SKUs w/in an AIB's lineup will require working around amdvbflash's safeties. The same shenanegans I went thru to get the Aqua vBIOS on my card, I had to go through to get my XTX Nitro+'s vBIOS on my friend's XTX Pulse. -one diff tho. His Pulse->Nitro+ card, ended up not softbricking on cold reboot.

I would support Dr. Dro's suggested path over the one OP is looking towards. If only, because the chance of softbricking/'persistent issues' are less.

I've never tried cross-flashing between differing VRAM cards, as I assume that would either
A. brick the card
or
B. make the card unstable.

I would be finding proof of less/more VRAM vBIOSs being successfully cross-flashed before ever trying it, myself.
perhaps, Polaris-Ellesmere cards?

He wants higher power limits. Understandable, but ill advised method (Esp. without prior proof of XT->XTX crossflashing working, period).

IDK if it still holds true today, but
there was a trick on Vega, etc. to get a SMIDGE more out of the Total Board Power limit.
If one 'broke out' the DC power leads from the fan(s) to a PSU lead, at max load one could gain an additional 25ishWatts.

Yes, but the difference is only around 10% and it's unlikely to get you any higher, just a very tiny bit more stable clocks over time, that provided your card's shunt resistor configuration is a match (and won't cause misreads with the VBIOS) and your temps are still great after the extra workload. I dunno man, the juice hardly seems worth the squeeze considering the potential issues and even risk of bricking your card over this. I'll concede the final word to people who are more experienced with these newer AMD GPUs than I am, I really mean to help but there's a time I must admit my knowledge has its limits :)

Though, worth considering, if whatever you're doing doesn't run well on a 7900 XT as is, not even a real XTX and I doubt even the 9070 XT would save your bacon. You're likely looking at a 5080 or higher.

Everything runs fine i use it for 1440 Ultrawide at 165HZ and most games i can max the settings but I noticed early on with my card is that is just wants more power than its currently allowed. I can hit 3+ GHz on main clock speed and 2800Mhz on vram clock.

Hey Meeper, after being in the same rabbit hole as you for a day and finally figuring out how to do all that, I've come with a message: it can't be done. The XTX's vbios don't work on XT because of different memory size I believe. Most of them straight up refuse to work, and some let it boot but the AMD drivers won't work.

Still, I'll share how to do it in case anyone stumbles onto this.

To sum it up, it involves downloading a moded amdvbflash, and creating a .cfg file with the info of the vbios you want to flash.
