RX 9070 availability

I wonder how much more refined you could make the analogy? World cup tickets? The Brazilian equivalent of the romance of an FA cup tie?!
Please, go ahead.

I know that football is basically a religion in South America. North America to a lesser extent has its own football, and largely ignores soccer. That said, if you spend a year outside the US at any point in your life it's pretty much impossible to not see the fanatacism, borne from love, that football gives the rest of the world. BTW, I did have to read through that twice to make sure the football and soccer things were correct...because USA...but I think it's clear that I respect football as what it is everywhere else, because US gotta US.

Mindfactory doesn't even have a section dedicated to 9000 series, so it seems to confirm recent reports about some potential financial problems.

do not compare stock prices please

don't tell me you are maybe showing Caseking - scalper prices which is obvious.

you have to check for the short term offers
One of several examples. Note: It seems they remove older days.

-- It'S the same as when the radeon 6600xt went on the market. check pages, be quick and buy. Especially on work time hours where the decent people are working. High prices when work shift is not in progress.

-- Prices are high - I'm not in the need to pay 150% of the value yet. Or desperate. Drivers will most likely be bad anyway.

Office partner shop - seems to be legal drug dealer for acer graphic cards - had listed today 9070 or 9070xt cards with 45 to 60 days maybe future delivery schedule ready for purchase. Of course they have the fancy ACER Badge to claim they are official sales partner. Price was also in my point of view 170% of the future value in 70 days.

Maybe you missed the whole point. The extended "I cannot call it a paper launch, but it's cellulose" section? The one where he specifically could not call it a paper launch, because of that initial graph with some large cities in the US being satisfied...and the rest of the world being dissatisfied?

English is tricky that way. It's almost like he knows there's too much data supporting that it was not a paper launch...but also wants to convey that their personal experience of buying online sucked. A dichotomy conveyed adequately by the data...and not by your anecdotal bemoaning of supply.

Listen, I understand you want to be unhappy. I also don't care about that, when the data suggests that you are going to be unhappy no matter what, unless AMD and Nvidia both pulled a magic trick, and produced an infinite quantity of cards. The thing is, that's a stupid ask. It's ignoring the supply chain, and it's ignoring that everyone needs to get paid, because you believe you're entitled to things day one. You're welcome to that entitlement, go pay a scalper, who only exists because people no longer have the concept of delayed gratification or even realistic expectations. I'm also loving the whole "you're a paid shill for AMD" crap. Where's my check? It's almost like I have an expectation that the whole pipeline broke down for months because both AMD and Nvidia wanted to have no old stock left, and it's nice to finally have something. Something that in 60-90 days will be in stock and probably match the MSRP, after scalpers have depleted the idiots in the market.

Let me offer you a parallel. Football tickets in Brazil. How much are people paying? Cost - Brazil - Football tickets $400 for tickets two weeks out...but I'm betting that you could still buy tickets from scalpers at $600 on the day of. Finite supply, huge demand, driven entirely by psychotics who need to be there, rather than watching the game on television. You want the equivalent of a stadium with infinite seats, so the ticket prices are lowered. Cool...show me how to make that happen. I expect the cost of those seats to go up until the game starts...after which I could plow the cost of a ticket into renting out a room at a local restaurant, buying food, and getting endless beer for a lower cost...as long as I don't have to actually be sat there. This is the equivalent of delaying gratification, to get the cards at MSRP, just as long as you don't have to be there (or the analog of buying day one).
Consider me a shill then for not paying to be part of the early adopter idiots. It's why I never watch movies the opening weekend, buy new car models, buy the first batch of any technology, and why I'm cool with watching pundits who know they have to be honest dance around calling a thing a paper launch, because while their experience sucked they know it'd be intellectually dishonest to call it a paper launch. Anecdote is not truth, and your anecdote doesn't change facts.

is it a paper launch, is it not a paper launch, i think the people have spoken, and this isn't even r/amd, it's worst it's r/radeon

I'm going to quote one of the comments: nOt a pApEr lAuNcH, eat a d***

In such a twisted world where graphics cards are looked at as aspirational products, luxury items, rarities, etc., it's a quite fitting analogy, I'd say.
Yea. I was just trying to place emphasis on why people would choose to go to this particular match / tournament, especially after favourable reviews. Trumps recent comment about co-hosting a world cup during a trade war supposedly makes it more exciting sprang to mind :/

I think when all of the online and normal outlets are sold out in less than a day, it's fair to say it's a paper launch.

Now AMD did seem to do a little better than Nvidia. I think it took a few hours to sell out online. A few Microcenters had a some units left the next day, but that's a very limited market. By contrast, seemed like Nvidia sold out in a few minutes.

Just think what people would be saying if this were Intel launching a new CPU.

Germany isn't really an option for purchase, caseking has inflated prices:

NBB has 2 9070 non-XT SKUs in stock with prices basically matching inflated ones in Poland:

In Germany after i search, cheapest:

Of course it's NOT a paper launch, they sold exponentially more than Nvidia did, and are still selling Radeons now, the fact stores ran out only proves there are far more people buying them.

There is a few left on Amazon UK in the XT version

Guys, there is a Microcenter stock alert thread here on TPU, check it out.

The 5070 had 1300 units on launch day (5th March), the 9070 had 3100 units (6th March), and the 9070 XT nearly 9k units.

There, not paper launch.

Just wait 3 months, there's little production constraints on them as they use gddr6.

People just buying the hype and massive fomo binge at launch.

Should be mountains of them available at msrp (or even less) by June.
I sure hope you are right. This environment of nothing being in stock is making me mighty nervous about what I'd do in a situation of a GPU problem ( something the 4090 is no stranger to).

Sure it's not a paper launch it's scalper shortage and limited supply in a global economy. I don't know what Nvidia had or sold, but that's still not a lot of GPU's to go around especially with scalping. Oprah or some other rich billionaire could have bought every one and still not made a dent in her income. I'd say that's a problem when one rich billionaire could buy the entire product launch. I feel like that's a meme you don't get a GPU you don't get a GPU you don't get a GPU I've bot them all.

Except that the vast majority of the stores limited purchases to 1 per customer. But I get your point.

You don't even need to be a billionaire. According to your numbers, the entire stock at Microcenter was probably worth under $10M USD for approx. 14,000 GPUs.

Compare to the # of DIY PCs approximately (from Grok):
"Using this rough estimate, if approximately 50 million desktop PCs are shipped annually, the number of DIY PCs could range between 5 million and 10 million units per year."

So if I take the median, and assume 50% have a dGPU in them (should be much higher for DIY), that's 7,500,000 * .5 = 3.75M PCs.

So Microcenter supplied enough DIY GPUs for 0.37% of the prebuilt DIY PCs that will be sold this year.

DIY = prebuilt, and this does not take into account the mass numbers of prebuilt and custom built PCs that are pre-existing (pretty much everyone in this forum). Those probably outnumber new sales by at least 5:1 if not 10:1

In other words 14,000 GPUs is trivially small to draw any kind of conclusion from.

It's only launch day stock, mind you. A lot more is to come during the entire life cycle of these products.

In the near future stronger iGPUs might be on the table to tide you over

Not sure if you get sent a a rickety replacement while your GPU is in for repair?!

Like from Asus? I was more expecting some spit in the face.

But in all seriousness I've been thinking of putting my name in for the asrock b580 waiting list, since I missed the opportunity to queue the limited edition, I'm afraid this might be a temporary thing too, is this what the kids call fomo?

Well anyway its basically the cheapest thing that isn't 8gb. And I think it would tide me over in such a case. But.... even though its only slightly over msrp in US dollars, after taxes and conversion, its gonna be like $420. Thats still a lot for a 'just incase' scenario. And then in such a case I would probably want something more powerful eventually anyway. Ugh.

Availability wasn't amazing for me despite being in a prime spot to get one in Tustin's Microcenter and a buddy at Best Buy who probably would have gotten one for me prior to launch if I begged enough. Opted to just not bother, my 7900 XTX is serving me fine enough, would be a waste.
Though I will ask what happened to the reference design? I haven't seen a single one for sale anywhere, with it only showing up in the promo material. If I was going to get one, it's be this design which I know this isn't really important in the big picture most of the time but I like this way more than the AIB models.
I doubt I'm the only one that likes reference models, but maybe they just get pulled the last second? Or did I miss something? I know these are renders but surely they actually made some right?

I think they made the design in render, but cancelled it before manufacturing to save costs. I agree, it's a shame. I've got a reference 6750 XT and 7600, they're awesome (albeit a bit hot).

I think I heard actually making the cards is a little out of AMD's specialty and was putting strain on them. Don't get me wrong its not an insult, its just a small but focused company. AMD designs the chips, tsmc makes the chips, and gigabyte or whoever adds a pcb, heatsink and some fans. Everybody has their place. AMD just designs the chips and that helps them be lean and profitable.

But idk... they certainly look nice anyway. I think I prefer that over the nvidia design, not that I dislike the nvidia design. Also those are some sexy 8 pins. They give off a nice relaxing aura, quite different than the 12 pin which gives off an aura of unease and anxiety.

I was tempted to just switch over to cloud gaming but the environmental cost calculations don't sit right with me and, ironically?!, cloud gaming doesn't seem particularly great for indie / niche games that require lesser hardware to run. Probably par for the course with streaming services.

I wondered if they'd perhaps use their own reference designs for Navi 44 chips

Letting things run out of your control and ownership, and relying on an external service instead is ALWAYS a bad idea.

I doubt it, but it would be cool! :)

Just selected 4nm and all there. XT starting at 849 with 19% VAT. The locals little cheaper at 844 vat 20% incl.

"Artist render" aka they were probably working on it but decided to dump it in favor of AIB's.

More XTs in stock, starting at €839.
