If u remove the cpu cooler it will say r480, dont believe either the bios or driver which core you are using. The r480 core can run r430 bios/drivers, and this is why the powercolor x800gt can be given a boost when flashing to a r480 bios.

If u wont take my word for it, and I have read threads about it not having first hand experience, then u will have to remove cooler. That is my point and Im well aware it may not be worth removing the cooler to check.

As I already said there is no software to tell u what core u have, since the core the software recognises depends on what the bios is reporting, and since r480 can run r430 bios its not a reliable way to check (as I think I just said).

As for the error its from not using the -f command, I recommend u read the guide again because its clear when u read the correct page. U need to read the artical on "how to flash a bios", which is linked to from the artical "how to flash from x800gto to x850".

so seein as i already got 16 pipes...shall i just flash the BIOS so it shows R480 core?....if i can should i flash it to a Sapphire X850 XT PE BIOS? When u change the BIOS does it set the clocks for that card or do ur clocks stay the same?

R430 normally can't go so high (520MHz). It usually can run at 430-450MHz max. Remove the cooler and see with your eyes what core do you have. But yet if your core is R430 it is racial one :D .

It will say gc16 as part of the code on the memory chips and that is not hard to check. I fail to see a reason to flash your card. U say u were disappointed that it is not a r480 core, but we say it almost certainly is from the card u bought and the clocks its running. I dont think there is a better bios for your card except the one you already have, not sure on this so will wait till Im proved wrong.

If u are itching to flash it because u thought u would have to in the first place, relax it was done at the factory and your guarentee is still intact. I think the next step is to upgrade the cooler, but if the card is cool and u think the performance is acceptable then no need to risk it.

"But yet if your core is R430 it is racial one"

Lol that is a classic, talk about getting the wrong meaning in a foreign language, I think u may have meant "radical" or simply "very special". R480 has no skin colour so its not racial!:twitch:

i have never seen an r430 go as high as 500 even with vmods so like megatron said its gotta be an r480, yea i thought that racial comment was hilarious.

"racial" forget about - "thoroughbred" is much more suitable :D . But the fact remains even the "wrong" word used - 520MHz is too high for R430. Don't you think that "radical" is too readical? I like "very special" more :)

This is how folks do to score records at futuremarks orb with "x800xl", they get thier x850xt pe, flash it to x800xl, and they can clock the core and mem to 600/600 and get world record in the category x800xl!

Fuck them.
