Does anyone know if Scott Mueller of 'Upgrading and Repairing PCs' is still active?

The web site

forum.scottmueller.com

died recently and even before that had very little activity.

No other signs of him being around.

Either Retired or passed away is my only guess

A MC, and YTber by the name of Ronald Jenkees dissappeared as well

From what is shown on this page, the man would now be 114 years old. So odds are, he's no longer around.

This makes no sense. That would mean he was born in 1908. Probably bad math or some weird page configuration issue.

A quick search on the Internet shows the first edition of this book being published in 1988. That would make sense based on when personal computers started arriving in the general marketplace. However, that would make this author 80 years old at the time of initial publication if we believed the 1908 birth year.

More Internet searching shows Scott Mueller as president of Mueller Technical Research based in La Crosse, WI practicing IT consulting and training.

Additional Internet results shows a Scott R Mueller formerly of La Crosse WI about 61-62 years of age possibly currently residing in Illinois. That makes more sense as it would place him at age 28 in 1988; the IBM PC debuted in 1981 and thus would have been around for seven years by publication, enough for a then twenty-something PC geek to have accumulated enough knowledge to write a book about it. Thumbnail photos of the book's author seem to show someone in their late 20s or early 30s.

The move from La Crosse to somewhere in Illinois makes more sense concerning opportunities for IT consulting gigs.

My guess is he is either retired or just focused on his corporate IT consulting/training activities somewhere in the Midwest, possibly the greater Chicagoland area.

??? Why doesn't that make sense? Many people are still very active at 80. And just because he is listed as the author, that does not mean he typed every word.

I'm only 70 but I just got back from a 28 mile bicycle ride. I think my mind still has all its marbles. At least my kids have not said I need to be put out to pasture.

My Google hunt showed several Scott Mueller's but only this one was tied to writing technical books.

Does this guy look 80?

I'm not saying that people can't have wonderful accomplishments at an advanced age (Grandma Moses). My parents are both octogenarians and are still active.

The 22nd edition was published in 2015. That would make "1908-born" Scott Mueller 107 years old. He really looks great! I hope I have that skin if I ever reach 107. :D

Or maybe the publisher is using an old photo of Scott, back from 1940 from a superbly archived Kodachrome slide that accurately captures fashion and eyeglass frame design decades ahead of the era.

Just look at all of the clues.

Most likely old picture judging by quality and other things.

I was really hoping for a 23rd edition of 'Upgrading and Repairing PCs', although the books so far could really do with some prunning.

I liked Scott Mueller and his way of teaching information. Today the popular tech channels are more based on "entertainment" delivery, but I feel like even despite that his content would be well worth watching today. His videos formed a big part of my informal education in actually learning how PC's work.

This is an example of his type of educational content around the 2009 era (and no, he's obviously not over 100 years old):

Hi everyone, still no news about Scott? I've been looking all over the place but haven't found anything about it, I think his books on hardware are the best around in terms of the quality of detail and technical specifications, especially if you put the old editions together as well, you can get a really broad and rich view of the evolution of hardware. I occasionally go through his books to find in detail the specifications of PCs that I used in the late 1980s to explain to my students how things have changed since then. The 23rd edition would also be really appreciated because we have not received any updates since 2015.
I hope we can understand what actually happened and why the long silence.

I recall that he didn't like Windows 10 at all.

Well that I remember on the forum he was quite active, he had even sent a couple of PMs to a user asking about the new book and other info, but since then the forum started to have problems and then it was closed recently, probably the domain was no longer renewed. It's really strange that you can't find information, after all he is a fairly well-known author and followed by quite a lot of people in the field of technology.

I remember I had one of the early editions of his books -- back when the baby-AT format was still around.

No news yet, but I found this linkedin link, it could be the Lynn she talks about in her books as she is part of Mueller Technical Research, maybe someone registered on linkedin could contact her and ask for information.
