i used to run a chain of invision power board forums way back. i remember that we had a simple javascript method of skin changing, it was a drop down box , and when you selected your skin, it would trigger the script to load the images for the skin you choose instead ( or something like that, idr how it worked) . invision forums are highly customizable and there are millions of skins out there, and so on those forums that i used to be admin, we ended up loading over 50 skins onto our servers and we had like a whole page for skin changing, like you go to that page and pick your skin, and it'd write a cookie saying that you selected that theme and it'd load it.

this would be a great idea for tpu, having users be able to pick multiple skins. its a nice little javascript script thats really useful.

that i think is the site i used for skins, they have over 4.5k skins...

i remember more about that script, i believe that the script linked to css(cascasing style sheet) files, each css script had info like fonts, text colors, etc. along with the urls of the images to be loaded.

found a great script: i used something similiar, got the script free off of the web, plugged in the locations of the css sheet (that came with the free skins that i downloaded), embedded it and waa laa, easy style switching

Description: You've seen such a feature on other CSS based sites, now you can have it too. This is a "plug & play" style sheet switcher that lets your visitors switch between a list of alternative style sheets to apply to your site. With a change of style sheet the entire look of your site can be transformed. Persistent cookies are used to store the user's selection and automatically recall that style sheet upon his return.

you think i should directly try to get in touch with w1zz? or do it through zek?

the scripts are not big, just text files, which dont take much room, and it shouldn't be too hard to code, with great photoshop people, us users can even make our skins for tpu.

if tpu has a problem hosting the skins, i'm sure many of the people here would be willing enough to pay for web hosting to host the skins or host some images on their own server.

ive been a member of this board for a couple of years now and to be honest with you i have to say that this is one of the best boards on the web.

thats why i still post here and read.

i like the way it is now, and has been since i joined.

actually there was one re-vamp of the forum and now the main pg as well.

everything is visible and its clear.

no flashing lights with sirens to kick my hangover into overdrive and send me into an epileptic episode.

maybe some MINOR chages but nothing drastic. please.

It's not bad. Things like member /poster signatures should get a clamp though. They're getting out of hand, size and length wise (yours is a good example hehe :).

I like the apperance of the GPU forums. Maybe it could be possible for the skin from there be an option for users to use in TPU?

meh I think that there should be the option to choose the GPU forums skin, because i like that one :D
