Owners of Intel-based Macintosh computers, especially the MacBook series, know that they get extremely hot. Hendrik Holtmann noticed that this is only because Macintosh sets all system fans to ridiculously low speeds for quietness. And so Hendrik Holtmann made a program that has access to cooling-fan control code in Mac OS X. SmcFanControl monitors fan speeds inside the latest Intel Macs, and allows the user to change fan speeds until they are comfortable with the temperature. The only glitch in smcFanControl: The settings don't stay loaded after the system is shut down or put into sleep mode. However, smcFanControl can detect when the Intel Mac is woken from sleep mode, and will reset the settings by itself. It also is easy to add smcFanControl to the list of programs that start with Mac OS X. The program will work on any Intel based MacBook, MacBook Pro, or Mac Mini, and can be downloaded here.
