Might be a "higher end" 450.. but I only spent $119 for mine via newegg.
I bought this version

U2, glad to see you got a nice card there.. glad it's not one of those cards that "doesn't need" the psu plug..
Yea i am over that now. I have a simple dual core system which i consider to be my secondary System. Intel Celeron E3300, XP SP3, GTS 450, 2.5GB , 430PSU. I am in the process of building my main gaming rig , a AMD system, Phenom II X6 with a 6850. Cards that require pin connectors is not a issue with me anymore.

you bought it at bestbuy or somethin didn't you
Yes. I always buy video cards at best buy. I catch them when they are sale tho. But the thing about this 450, , it went on sale the next day i bought it, so i went back and got some cash back :)

Glad you got over the thought of pins. It's a good card. I love mine. Cooling is nice and cool on it..

*sigh* Sorry but it's got to be said, you got ripped.

That + overnight shipping cost the same as your gts450. Really need to quit purchasing cards from bestbuy, I just feel as though if you had patience you would be much much happier as a whole. But, don't take offense to my advice, I am just trying to help you. Not trying to argue at all or "flame" as one would call it. :)

Oh I agree, I'm not knocking the 450 as viable choice in a card but for the price that was paid, it's kinda lame.

Much luv u2k! It would still fit the bill for the 17" monitor, totally!

Well i pick up GTS 450 for 174 dollars, it was worth every penny. So spending near 200 or 200 seems to worth the money. :)

If i may suggest, though: make sure you get a good PSU so that any future updates are covered (I'm assuming the 430 PSU isn't for your gaming rig). It may cost you now but it will cost you allot less then updating it in the future.

Thanks for agreeing with me but i disagree with you also! :p

430w would be fine for his proposed build, well I take that back it depends on which brand/model. Man I am just the "devil's advocate" lately aren't I?! :)

Each have his own opinions, i guess, but i did say "future updates" didn't i?

I'm using a Corsair TX 750 which is way more then i need right now but, should i upgrade to a more powerful system, i would not need to also upgrade my PSU which is my whole point.

Of course you did, but also in future, TDP in theory should be slimmed down, with less heat comes less power consumption correct?

I myself am using a "hx850 in thermaltake clothing", I love it and I could run my own personal rig on a decent branded 450w, I just wanted this particular one.

Each have his own opinions

But yes, I do agree in total with you.

PS: Just wanted to see your reply to be honest. ;)

Sorry to be Ot on this..

Jr: I thought you said to HTC... that whole.. just wanted to see your reply.. I need to see my girl tomorrow..

Yeah, I'd rather have a bigger psu supply to worry about the future.. No matter even if your not going to upgrade.. "brown outs" happen and so do other types of surges.. I'd rather have a psu that I know can handle the future, then know it'll be a subject of future BSOD and replaces.. IMHO

Nah, the 430 is with my dual core build. I am building my main gaming rig, which is going to be a AMD system. I plan on using a 600W PSU for the 6850. I plan to have 2 gaming rigs. Dual core and six core.

The CPU parts i am ordering from newegg ( unless i find something at the computer show on the 25th ) , but i always buy video cards from best buy. I Really don't mind paying the extra money for stuff.

Good: just make sure it's of a good brand.

It ain't just the GPU card that requires a good PSU: it's the whole system. If you had a low power CPU and GPU but had allot of peripherals such as sound card, many HDDs, DVD-RWs, and / or other stuff, it could still eat up allot of power, no? I mean, it adds up, no?

That's why i believe better safe then sorry and opted for a 750W one from a respectable brand even though, with my whole system OCed, i don't reach 500W.

Furthermore: i only OC my system when i'm in a "heavily gaming session" which doesn't happen often. I usually have my whole system underclocked (i had the GPU like the pic but was unstable, even though it passed furmark, so i raised it to 600 / 750).

Dunno about you but i consider the PSU to be the single most important part of the PC.

Even if you get a video card thats worth $200 eg 6850 than your CPU will bottleneck (meaning hold your graphics card back when your playing games lol) so i would say upgrading your cpu to a quad core as well and oc it so that you can keep a graphics card for maybe 1-2years?

Even if the cpu bottlenecke it shouldn't matter too much. Let's say the cpu bottlenecks by 5%. At a high fps, say 100,not going to be losing much at all due to being at high fps rate anyways. Just my theory when it comes down to budget building gaming only pc's. I do agree the cpu is still essential in high res gaming. Take this post as just personal opinion. I agree with you 110%.

Now, for cards that are less than $200 that are good buys? Well the GTX470 is an excellent buy at $200.

Otherwise, the GTX460 and HD6850 are both about the same price and performance. Don't buy into that older tech bullshit about the GTX460, it is only older tech by the fact that it has a 4 in the model number instead of a 5, the GPU under the heatsink is essentially exactly the same as the GTX560, the GTX460 just has a few locked shaders.

Any of these cards will lasy serveral years as long as you don't expect to play on max settings. My guess is that they will handle games in 2-3 years at medium settings @1080p.

I can run any game I throw at my GTX460 (BFBC2, MW2, Crysis, Crysis Warhead, Just Cause 2, Bulletstorm, etc.) At max settings, 1080p and at 40FPS+. Don't tell me it can't run that stuff.

He said in 2-3 years. If you really think you'll be maxing new releases out in 2-3 years then I don't know what to tell you. I don't think a 570 will be maxing new games out in 2-3 years, never mind a 460.

Also, my 6950 unlocked to a 6970 doesn't get 40+ fps in Crysis with everything maxed at that resolution. Usually 35-40 avg with 4xAA, occasionally into the lower 30s in heavy action scenes. The 460 is an outstanding value but let's not exaggerate here.

I must have misread what he said, although he did say "Any of these cards will lasy serveral years as long as you don't expect to play on max settings." But that's beside the point. I reran Crysis as I got a new GTX 460, and I can run Crysis at around 38-40 FPS at Very High settings with 4x AA, but that's only because my processor is a bottleneck. The other games I mentioned, i.e. Bullet Storm runs at 62.1FPS and seems to stay there, I think there is a FPS cap, so not really measurable. Bad company 2 runs at 45-55 FPS online. Just Cause 2 runs at 50 FPS, max everything, with slow down to around 40 in high action scenes (large explosions, etc) but it's not often enough to notice. MW2, anyone can run that, I was just listing it as an example, I get around 150 FPS on that, lol.

He said in 2-3 years. If you really think you'll be maxing new releases out in 2-3 years then I don't know what to tell you. I don't think a 570 will be maxing new games out in 2-3 years, never mind a 460.

Next gen consoles are going to be out by 2015:shadedshu so unless a major natural disaster wipe out PS3 and 360 factories and the PC is the leading platform again, a GTX460 will serve you well, unless you are a graphics whore:p. Crysis 2 runs Ok on my old 8800GTS and it is from early 2007, if that is a good or a bad thing i don't know.
