Any one know of a way to stop CPU Downclocking when DX3D is running? other than using windows power plans? Sort of how Norton has a gaming profile when running DX3D i need a program that changes my power plan settings?

Disable speed step?

I only want locked speed in 3D programs other than that i like the downclocking in windows.

It will only downclock if A) it's too hot or B) it doesn't need the horsepower for whatever 3D application you're running.

i've done plenty of testing over the years with and without the downclocking, and it never affects the FPS in benchmarks.

Thats were X99 fails it does i have tried every thing to fix it, Its only a problem in unreal games ill get a load of stutter when playing on a balanced power plan i need a program to lock my CPU speed when gaming.

yeah i didnt notice you were on X99. I dont think theres an automated way to do this, you can likely find programs that let you switch between windows power profiles in one or two clicks.

Change the power plan to high performance then? Honestly the difference in power saving is obsolete.

I've bought a 3.5GHz CPU and I want the damned thing to run at 3.5GHz all the time, so I've disabled all the power saving features in the BIOS. This isn't just personal preference either, because I do notice that the desktop is that little bit more responsive with it running like this. It doesn't overheat or act glitchy in any way, either.

I've not compared it in games, like Mussels has, so can't say if it improves framerate or not. I've always assumed that it would run at max speed there due to the loading on it and DX triggering it anyway for max performance.

Using a high performance power plan is fine but i don't like running my Overclocked voltage 24/7 if you understand what i mean which is why i was looking for a work around, The problem must be with the engine as no other games has this problem.

Can't your overclock via the turboboost instead in BIOS? That way at no load it stays at lower stock clocks and voltage, but when it's loaded the turbo-boost kicks in with your specified clocks and volts. Most load automatically triggers turbo anyway. Maybe I'm crazy, I remember that being possible on one of Intel's platforms.

When setting High Pref in window it runs your turbo boost clock speed there for is runs at your max voltage as well.

I just did more googling after typing in "how to change power plans when starting a game" i found this program Full Throttle Override if it works it mite of made my day.

try play with game options so you put more load on cpu

Isn't there an option in Realtemp or AIDA64 or whatever to toggle EIST from Windows.

I don't know if this would work right but alternatively you could make a new power plan then switch between them easily with the "powercfg /s" command. Create a batch file and use that as your shortcut.

Yer but in the end it would become a pain the program i have found does every thing i wanted it to after adding my unreal games it just sets the plan for me.
