Hi, I have an old pc which I was trying to repurpose.
It has an AMD phenom x6 1045t, 10GB ddr3 ram, 300W PSU.
It originally had a GT 420 installed, which worked well. Then I bought an AMD r9 350 GPU which I installed, but no display is shown. The fan spins, when I remove the GPU, it gets warm, and caps lock key works, but I don't get any signal on the monitor. I am using a DVI to HDMI cable which worked for the GT 420. There are no other PCIe slots to put the GPU, no other PC's to test out the r9 350 and no other cables to use for it.

I have tried uninstalling the Nvidia drivers using DDU but it didn't work.
Only whenever I plug the GT 420 back into the pc, I get a display and am able to get into windows, but not when I plug in the r9 350, it says no signal.

The guy I got this GPU from said it worked perfectly for him, but has refused to take any refund. I think he used a display port to HDMI cable but I don't know for sure.

Can you test that AMD card on another PC, at a friend's place or at work ? talk to the IT department, buy them a Coke or a sandwich and ask them to test it for you.
And why don't you use the DVI cable stright in to the AMD card ? i see online, that all of them have DVI port. Or test it with HDMI out to your TV.

Hi, thanks for the reply but I am connecting the dvi to the AMD card, and the Nvidia card, and using the same monitor with hdmi for the input, it works for the Nvidia card but not for amd. I also can't really test it out on other pc's and not with the IT department because I am only 15...

Make sure your BIOS is the latest version available. Try another slot if possible. Try hooking the card up without the HDMI adapter / a different port on the card.

What do you mean?

Certain video cards have a BIOS that supports UEFI motherboards whereas others only support legacy. Some cards even had a BIOS switch to change between UEFI and legacy mode.

Red flag right there.

Agreed, if someone you work with is having a problem with something you sold them you either help them fix it or accept a return. If the product really is functioning they should have no problem selling it to someone else.

Take the card back to who you purchased it from and advise him you know people who are good at removing kneecaps. People getting fucked over when they are nice and good-natured winds me up.

Didn't even notice you are only 15. That makes the situation even worse! You bought it off an adult and they've just taken advantage of a minor! GRRRRR

Edit : Sorry for the rant, rough day.

The BIOS on my motherboard is legacy one, idk if it can be updated, or changed to UEFI, the pc is quite, with an AM3 motherboard.

Could you give us the exact model of your motherboard, monitor and the R7 350 that you bought?

http://www.barebonekit.net/hp-alpinia-gl8-motherboard-605561-001_i_mbhpc605561rs78.aspx that is the link I could find for the specs of the motherboard, the monitor is a Hitachi TV, and idk the model of the GPU, it is an r9 350 based on r9 m360, not r7 350

Also, another thing is that, when I connect the GPU with the motherboard, it does give a quick beep sound when I start the pc, which I researched to find out is apparently a good sign?

A signle short beep is typically an indication that the PC booted successfully. It should have done the same thing with your old graphics card as well.

That must be an unusual card, the M360 was a mobile chip. Could you upload some photos of the card, especially any stickers and/or character strings printed on the PCB? What outputs does the card support? And does your TV have any inputs other than HDMI?

Yes it did!

I can't really take an image of the card at the moment but here is the link that I found of the card, the GPU I have looks exactly like it. https://www.bargainhardware.co.uk/amd-radeon-r9-350-pcie-x16-2gb-gddr5-fh, it has a DVI port and 2 display ports, I don't have any display port cables or any monitor that supports display port.

OK, so it is indeed an R9 350. It's an OEM HP card that supports UEFI and installs as the M360:

As has been suggested, for troubleshooting it would be best to connect the card directly either with a DVI or DP cable.

If your TV has a VGA input, you could try a DVI-VGA adapter. DP-HDMI converters are also available.

Hi, I don't really have the budget left to get a DVI-VGA of DP-HDMI adaptors. The DVI to HDMI cable that I used works for my GT 420, so I don't know why it isn't working for the r9, maybe the port is broken or somehow the GPU is dead, is there anything else I can try?

So you get no screen at all or do you get into the BIOS? If no signal the DVI plug could be dead. If you have a TV with an HDMI port it could force the GPU on vs a monitor.

Passive DVI-VGA adapters start at $1, and the cheapest DP-HDMI ones are only a few bucks. Worth a shot IMO if you have no way to connect the card natively, or try it in another PC.

How much did you pay for that card if you don't mind me asking?

I get the no signal message on the TV/monitor that I am using, I am using a DVI to hdmi cable. The GPU does not have hdmi port, only 2 display ports which I don't have a monitor or budget to get the cables for. Also what do you mean by force the GPU on?

£15

Hi, I just got a DP cable and tested the pc on my main monitor, and it works. I am so happy that the GPU wasn't dead. I just need to get a DP to hdmi adapter now! THANKS!

Hi, but is there anyway to get the dvi port working? What could be causing no display output?

The DVI port may have not been the cause of your issue, it would have been the cable itself. Impossible to tell unless you get a regular DVI cable and test it with a compatible monitor. Great that you got the issue fixed though, at least we know now that it wasn't the GPU.

Hi, the dvi-hdmi cable that I use worked for the gt420 and still works for it, I am confused about it being the cable?

A cable can cause issues for one card and not another, particularly when you are talking about an adapter cable. Of course it could just be the port but you cannot rule out the cable either.
