thanks for fast reply :) , flicker is a pain in ass though , cant even minimize and maximize warcraft (dota) properly (even the sound would stuck for a sec or 2)now i know what the problem is and i hope it does get fixed soon.

i still get flickers w/ default bios and also asus bios , guess i better upgrade to the one you posted and use att to lower down even more for low power usage

thanks again mate really appreciate it !

ohh and, almost forgot something :p

Flashed my Sapphire Radeon HD4870 512, with the ASUS TOP Bios. BRICKED! :p

What i did wrong was to flash it with: atiwinflash <---bad idea :(

Then i flashed back to my orginal bios with superbootdisk CD (boot to dos)
Then i burnd a cd with atiflash and the rom, loaded up dos and just flashed on (D:\) <--my dvd :p Well, now it works and i want to flash again! :D

If someone can give me tips, try again or just go with 750/900? Risks and so on :toast:

Blessings! :rockout:

If you force flash it with ATiFlash (not the Windows version) it won't lock part way through the flash like the WinFlash version does...

I had this problem time and time again on my GeCube 3870 until I switched over to ATiFlash (DOS) exclusively.

Obviously just make sure you can run the clocks in the TOP bios. But you could just rip the signature and fan template from the TOP bios and insert it into your own one with RBE 1.15?

Can someone please give me a link to a bios that has maybe a better oc or overdrive whatever everyone mostly is doing with this card I have 113-B50701-100

I think I can change the oc and use rbe myself but I don't ubderstand what happens lets sayif I just up all mem so I don't get flicker and only up gpu on clock info 3 & 9 then I imaging that is ok for normal stock operation and oc while stressed but how does this come into play with overdrive?? I thought ati2evxx.dll changed clock speeds when needed so why overdrive?? or does overdrive kick in only when stressed?? can someone please help??

Need some help from a trained eye - is this Sapphire (blue pcb) identical to Ati's reference card?
Or, put it another way, can reference bioses be used?

Thanks.

Sapphire 4870 modded powerplay bios

This is a new modded bios based on the latest Sapphire bios, I recommended for Sapphire owners, even if it probably works good with any other reference 4870.

It features:

2D=550/900/1.083

3D=750/900/1.263

CCC limit

Gpu clock=850

Memory clock=1200

Enjoy

P.S.=If this is useful to you...leave a thanks.

Sapphire 4870 Blue PCB - Underclock / Undervolt /Overclock

Hi everyone, my first post here. I purchased my 4870 a couple of weeks ago (really good price I think,199€) and I am reasonably satisfied with it (coming from a voltmodded uberclocked 7900GT which could run most games at good fps at the resolution my current monitor allows 1024*768, though not max settings).

With the ATI card I am able to max the quality in every game I own (Crysis Warhead,GRID,DiRT,Assassins Creed, R6Vegas 2,Mass Effect), but I do know that I am not taking advantage of all the power it has. Besides, my CPU / Mobo are aging now (AMD 4200 X2 @ 2870, 2GB DDR @ 480, with an Asus A8N-SLI without PCIe 2.0) and I can confirm that they are a serious bottleneck (my 3DMark 06 score is 11000). I am running XP and not particularly interested in Vista at the moment....

Anyway, I knew all of that, so I am not complaining at all, and I will upgrade in the future and make good use of the card). I also expect that the incoming games such as FarCry 2, Fallout 3, etc, will require all the power it has.

I just wanted to share my experiences with you fellas about what I have done with the card. It is the Sapphire blue custom PCB. I do not know, as a previous poster asked, if it follows the reference design or not, I would be really interested in knowing that...

Anyway, I have modified its BIOS (-XXX) with RBE 1.15 and, combining that with Ati Tray Tools, I can now have a very quiet, very cold card at 2D (160/225 @ 1.083).

I am currently running most games at default speed, since they do need nothing else, but I found something interesting, and it is that I have been able to keep it stable at lower voltage than default, specifically, it can sustain default 3D speeds @ 1.203v (coming from the 1.263).

In terms of overcloking, I have not been able to obtain good results. Max for the CPU is 810-815, while memory is not stable above 950 (artifact testing with Ati Tool, with Catalyst 8.9).

I would appreciate if someone with a similar card can suggest me any options for overclocking it higher (just for the fun of it).

For the 2d..you should try 550/200/1.083 it will give you better results, in regards to overclocking, there is another bios that increases the voltage but it is based on the reference design, there you go...that's the original untoched copy.

1) Once you change the fan setting to a look up table, RBE automatically changes those value but I have had no issues on that.

2) that bios has the spin up fix already, that is why it is greyed out.

3) You can increase the settings but I suggest you also implant the signature for CCC from the Asus top your whichever other bios you want to use, so your standard clock and memory values match.

4) The bios that I have attached to my signature, automatically switches from 2d to 3d but if you want to use lower values you should use Att especially if your memory clock is changing, because with ddr5 every time you change the memory clock you'll get a flicker and that is very annoying, however ATI is working on that, so I think in future the drivers will take care of that part.

finally flashed to the 1083 bios , the A's are lower , just wanted to know how do i underclock it more in ATT tools beta as it wont let me do 550/200/1.083 for 2d (is there any software tool for this or do i have to put those values and edit the bios again?) , i have also implanted HIS as the vendor in the 1083 bios as you suggested and installed 8.9 catalyst lets see how it goes

good evening,

I am sorry for the French translation but I did it by Google

bios on the Sapphire 4870 (reference only) POWERPLAY modded bios, the fan speed is not too fast, because with the original bios I am a 27% to 70 degrees Idle on the desktop 2D

I also want to know if it works properly without bios crash in 2D or 3D as he is studying for the 4870 model sapphire reference?

es this bios best suited for my Sapphire 4870?
thank you very much for your help

Hey bro :) I have same card as you.

Im running it:

160/225 Voltage 1.083 - Fan 28% = 42c idle

750/900 Voltage 1.263 - Fan 32% = 68c load

im running this with my ORGINAL bios and latest Ati tray tools v1.5.9.1314 Beta.

Strange thing is after i tried to flash the ASUS TOP bios (bricked my card, so i flashed back to orginal bios i had saved with latest GPU-Z) , i cant go over 750/900 no more!

Dont know why :( Dont know if any other bios will work... :p

Bless :rock:

do i have to reflash my bios with 2d settings or is there a software way to underclock them, my current 2d bios settings are 550/900 @ 1.083

which one is better

1. 160/225 Voltage 1.083 OR
2. 550/200/1.083

I am using it in my sapphire without crashes, in 2d your temp should be around 49-50, that's what I get.

In ATT you have option under General settings to change your overclocking/downclocking limits. Just put downclock to 100% and you can than set any clock.

I think there is virtualy no change between 160/225/1.083 and 550/200/1.083. I use 160/250/1.083, so it's all there about. You can use any value from 160-550 for GPU and 200-250 for memory, you'll have roughly the same consumption (+/- 1 or 2W).

This is a new modded bios based on the latest Sapphire bios, I recommended for Sapphire owners, even if it probably works good with any other reference 4870.

It features:
2D=550/900/1.083
3D=750/900/1.263
CCC limit
Gpu clock=850
Memory clock=1200

Soooo for us that don't know what the LATEST brigs vs "old" referece one, could you give us some info? All the features are probably moded by you, but is there anything new in the original Sapphire BIOS? Tnx!

Recently I learned that a new bios was out for my 4870 Sapphire blue pcb, I quote:

And if you have bios ver: 11.006.000.003.000000 of 24/07/2008 is a bios Bugged for some games that do not guzzle 3D. (crash and reboot hard on spore or css eg)
If you SKU 11133-00-20R on your label on the box rather put it this bios

Actually of all of them 550/200/1.083 where the memory is set lower, gives lower temps for the memory which is the hottest part on this cards, so I recommend using these settings since you'll have roughly the same consumption.;)

P.S. On September 26/08, Sapphire realesed a new bios for the 4870, I have applied my mods and currently testing it, if no problems are found...I will post it.
