Yea I just didn't want to buy another block that's why I used it.

Still it's the same thing. Copper/TEC/Copper plate. The only thing different is that the Copper plate doesnt cover the CPU all the way.....I have less the 1/8 on both sides not covered. BUT I'm only trying to keep the center cool.

I would of popped off the IHS, but I thought it might be sodered on and didn't want to mess with the stove on a new CPU.

Most generators produce square wave, instead of sine wave. Beating the piss out of your caps and PSU.


Not even good to run a system on. Most cheap UPSs do the same. Only good for momentary power, or for shutdown.

X2 5600+ F3

defiantly less severe than the other 2, but unfortunatly htt limited in the cold

Ran fine down to -50 and beyond I assume (didn't go lower) HTT maxes out around 240 though at this speed, regardless of voltages. (tried the HTT tips)

I let temps ramp up and at around -20 it starts to get better, by 0 330 is possible, and actually gets a tiny bit better into the positive's

Anyway thanks to everyone for the tips to work around the HTT prob on this board, I will tinker with it at higher temps at somes stage. Will try to push the max of the F3 on air. This CPU may be a candidate for some TEC action I think. thanks to its high multi, The point where the HTT instabilty becomes a problem VS the extra VCore afforded by low temps may add up to some good results at just below 0. Seriously considering giving it a go.

I'd try the same with small amounts of DI but im sure anyone who's used it would agree it's not fun to regulated the temps


I'm currently typing on the Brisbane in the Crosshair for the first time. Going to see if it's HTT limit differs much from the DFI board, to make a conclusion on whether the CPU or the board is the prob.


Dry Ice testing Summary:

X2 4000+ G1 Brisbane:

Severe Coldbug @ approx -20 -10 actual
Characteristics: Total shutoff below these temperatures.
No boot below these temperatures.

X2 5200+ F2 stepping:

Coldbug @ approx -20
Symptoms: unstable at even defualt HTT approaching -20.
No boot at default below -20.


X2 5600 F3 Stepping:

Characteristics:

Less severe Coldbug beginning @ approx -20
Unstable @ high HTT progressivly below -10.
Will boot at default down to -50 and beyond (undetermined)
HTT instability:

Vcore 1.5-1.7 , NB and HTT voltages raised varying amounts.

@ -30c: will not boot above 240HTT
@-10c: will not boot above 260-70HTT
@0 + will boot up to 340HTT (board limited)

easiet way to check for a coldbugged windsor is to push the ht past 250, if you can get passed 250, then your cpu isn't coldbugged (at least at anything your cooling will hit) for me the more cooling I apply to my fx, the further it goes, stock air 2.96, 800w water cooling 3.26, crappy outdated phase 3.4, I imaging with cascade i could hit 3.7-3.8 on this chip, pity the xtra performance isn't worth the money or hassle to me. lol (seeing as a 6400 is cheaper and will likly hit thsoe speeds on the cooling I have)

and oh yeah it runs all the way up to 320ht. (on my old epox, this damn asus won't go past 290)

DaMulta, coming from a physics and chemisty background, There is no way a TEC can absorb (or cool) more watts than it expends (heat). TECs work by running a current through two metal different metal plates, one getting hot and one getting cold. The hot side will always have a higher temperature delta than the cold side, due to inefficiencies. I do not know exact numbers so I will go hypothetical to show my point.

Say you are using a gold and silver TEC. It draws 200w at 12v. Because nothing is 100% effcient there will be loss in the process of cooling the cold plate. Out of the if you try to cool 200w of heat with this tec there will be the amount of heat created by what you are cooling + the heat output of the hot plate by itself. The way you get things below ambient is by having more cooling power than what you are cooling (example a 65w cpu with a 188w tec). If you max out a tec, what you are cooling will be at room temp, with all of the TECs heat plus the cpus heat being output.

Back to the topic at hand. For stacking TECs to work the second tec would have to cool the first, along with the cpu too. You can only make tecs so strong, so that is why cascade cooling is used along with ln2 by the record setters.

While using 1 more powerful TEC is better, stacking 2 of the same TECs still works. Your theories are sound, but it's been proven to work in practice. The second TEC can remove more heat from the first TEC than water alone. The downside is the cooling on the second TEC must be extremely good to cope with the additional heat output.

In all honesty, he would be better off to buy a 226w TEC. I only suggested stacking because he already has 2 of them, but since the other one died, the point is moot, really.

So yeah, buy a 226w TEC, DaMulta. lol

I still get subzero temperatures, so id kill to try out a 65W chip

but ive never had a single cold bugged chip yet, my old Single core Sandy 4000+ got dowen to -25C on my old custom TEC block without a probls, and this opty handles -14C with ease.

Is that not the point I'm making? Stacking two TECs would double the heat output and double the wattage. It just doesn't make sense when there are stronger TECs out there which would give better cooling, with less heat, and less power draw.

Well the new tubing I ran had the kind that has nylon, and you can take some hard turns with 1/2 with it.

After last night, and my son I finally turned it on about 2:30AM to prime the lines and what do you know my rad starts leaking.....Well I know now that the rubber seal came out some how.....I need to use plumers tape on it before using it again.
