Thermalright Intros Silver Arrow TR4 CPU Cooler

Thermalright today introduced a variant of its Silver Arrow dual fin-stack, tower-type CPU cooler for AMD socket TR4, meant for Ryzen Threadripper processors. Capable of handling thermal loads of up to 320W, the cooler can be paired with even upcoming 250W TDP 24-core and 32-core Threadripper II models. Although bearing the same name, the Silver Arrow TR4 bears little design resemblance with the Silver Arrow ITX-R or the Silver Arrow SB-E, or even the original Silver Arrow from 2010. It's the largest cooler of this class, with an enlarged nickel-plated copper base designed to provide full coverage of the Threadripper IHS, from which eight 6 mm-thick heat pipes draw heat, with the two aluminium fin-stacks propagating along their ends.

Nested between the two fin-stacks is a 140 mm fan which takes in 4-pin PWM input, spins between 600 to 2,500 RPM, pushing 53.3 - 220.9 m³/h, with a noise output ranging between 21 - 45 dBA. With its fan in place, the Silver Arrow TR4 measures 155 mm x 103 mm x 163 mm (LxWxH). The narrow width ensures clearance for the memory slots that flank the CPU socket from either side. The fin-stack itself is offset sideways to ensure clearance for the topmost PCI-Express slot on your motherboard. You can latch on two additional fans. A syringe of Thermalright's Chill Factor III TIM comes included. The cooler tips the scales at 1,050 g. The company didn't reveal pricing.

Hell yeah, you are totally right!

i still have an IFX-14, mostly for retro builds albeit probably being able to use it with 1151, from them at home and if i didn't had a H115i for extra cheap, i would be using a HR-02 Macho B/W as my cooler (the supreme reference for price/performance ratio imho )

now checking for their cooler AM4 compatibility .... but now they re did the Silver Arrow in TR4 ... i guess a Threadripper sound about good ...

was there a chart somewhere for weight comparisons, forgot how heavy 1050g is compare to other air coolers.

my IFX-14 with 2 TY-147 was quite heavy it was 40g heavier than a Silver Arrow IB-E (790g +160g per fan)

iirc a TR HR-02 Macho is good for 240w with a single TY-143/7 and the Silver Arrow/Silver Arrow IB-E were their "extreme" category, so 320w should be doable single fan although dual would be preferable.
oh and a Macho is just slightly lighter (720g +160g fan)

no mobo i used these 2 beauty did bend or had any issues

That's a very good fan - 130 CFM @ 2500rpm - no extra fans needed, so optimal clearance is retained.. This is the best TR4 design I've seen so far.

Maybe the NH-U14S, but it doesn't have the offset design Thermalright offers for perfect GPU clearance, plus two more heatpipes.

That's a decent looking cooler, and luckily only have a single fan, multiple fans on these usually gives minimal gains when placed in a well ventilated case.

Also Thermalright Silverarrow series coolers do perform a touch better than noctua ones.

320 watts? That seems like a pretty hefty amount for a single fan air cooler to do out of box. Pleasantly so if accurate methinks.

1200 rpm is the max I'll use in any OC'd bawlz to the wall" OC build ...

the HR-02 Macho TY-147 was a 1300rpm max (not much noisier than a 1200rpm) and they were quite silent (blade shape probably) but well ... that one was rated at 240w

the Silver Arrow IB-E TY-143 have the same specs as the one from the TR4

Indeed, hopefully this will force Noctua to bring out something decent for TR4 too

but at what price .... and further ... what will it bring to make it worth (no no no! i don't want to read/hear about their warranty, it's not a warrant )

Improves transfer of heat from the CPU to the fins (where it's blow away by the fan/fans).

I thought it was a tech site. Since when does the fact that it has more heat pipes than an other heatsink means it performs better???

The pipes are what transfers heat away from the base plate, the fins further transfer that heat to a larger dissipation area, the fan then blows the heat away.
More pipes=more heat transfer.
