and the giant bedrooms with mouse/action figured sized players.
That was a third party map called BDC Bedroom and I loved it too. Seeing yourself in that giant wall mirror was great too, especially if you enabled flying mode.

I remember the toll that this map took on the framerate with the hardware of the time. Modern hardware blasts through it at sky high framerates of course and it looks fantastic.

Another awesome mod was Deathball!

Not sure if it was made for the original UT but it was a mod for UT2003 and UT2004:

It was great when you had 10 to 20 players!!! Especially if you knew the players. LOL

So while I was searching for the current state of play with UT99, I came across https://oldunreal.com/

It appears this community and Epic came to an agreement so OldUnreal can maintain patching going forward. I just downloaded and applied their latest 469b patch for UT99 and it fixes a lot of things, noticeably the interface which now plays nice on modern High-DPI monitors, and it patches in a newer "XOpenGL" renderer. This is their GitHub: https://github.com/OldUnreal/UnrealTournamentPatches

They have links to HD texture packs here https://sites.google.com/view/unrealhdtextures/home which I'm in the process of downloading.

There was a mod call 'crotch shot' mod that had its own custom announcer messages.

Crotch shot, crotch master, crotch domination... etc etc

Heres a short clip of the UT99 mod on deck16 - the guy never really gets any multi-kills though so you dont get to hear the announcer going off one.

There used to be more vids at one point in time but i guess everyone grew up and stopped laughing at toilet humor (afaik the mod exists for UT2004)
Definite mod

Need those due to hyper mode on todays hardware.

How about ChaosUT and ChaosUT2K4?

I remember UT99 anti-piracy was using the disc to play. If you did a no-cd crack, one copy is all you need for a lan party since it has no MP key.

Thats correct. I remember using a hub for LPs.

So far no issues with UT2k4 and online servers. I was able to join some servers last night, albeit they were empty. Game played just fine, I did have to adjust the resolution as max was 1680x1050. But NBD. No crashes, no issues downloading maps, game played smooth, fast, and stable for the 10-15 I screwed around.

I'll try UT99 today after lunch with the wife.

But for $1.99 on GoG, no complaints. I did install using GoG Galaxy as well. :toast:

I only have UT3 on Steam...I have physical copy of UT, but no optical drive. I'd probably buy whatever one people are playing...I currently only really play Quake Champions...it's been years since I played UT. The last I played was UT3 though.

I remember that you could run the .exe from inside the directory without the CD, no crack was required. I have UT99 GOTYE, the boxed version. Maybe the CD check was patched out in .436?

Rented a UT2004 server for a month to test it out!!!

It is a public server.

Name on the server is: TPU-UT2004
IP address is: 108.61.104.100

You can add that IP address in your favorites within the game to make it easier to find.

It has been a ton of years since messing with UT server settings, so if anyone knows how, shoot me a PM and I'll get you set to log into the server to adjust settings.

If someone knows how, we could set up preferred maps, game types, etc...

I just rented a server in Atlanta Georgia for now just to test. It is easy, and free, to change locations if we find ping times are bad.

I think that's correct. One of the patches did away with needing the CD.

Very cool of you to do this. I won't be joining, but original UT has always been one of my favorites. I hope you all have fun, this is really cool.

This is just a test server man. Heck, you can get UT2004 on GOG for $1.99 right now:

Downloading it now on 56K. 8 hours to go. Just kidding :)

I'll check out the server soon.

Thanks man!

Confirmed that $1.99 copy had no issues joining your server! :rockout:

I have all the UT games on Steam. I guess for years now and kind of forgot I did. Any HD Texture packs for UT04?

For resolution adjustment:

Using a text editor, open the file: UT2004\System\UT2004.ini

Find the lines:

FullscreenViewportX=1920
FullscreenViewportY=1080

And change them to:

FullscreenViewportX=2560
FullscreenViewportY=1440

I also can't find the server without searching by IP.

Unlock FPS and lower Ping - Went from 130 to 90ms ~

@stinger608 I've logged onto the UT2004 TPU CTF server and all seems well. It took AGES to download the assets for whatever reason, but once that loaded it's been fine.

Separately, after dusting off my original discs and installing the game, I created a readme for my own purposes which pulls everything together to get things working using the DX9 renderer on my Windows 11 system. Hopefully it helps anyone else struggling.

Of note, I think the only way to get anti aliasing working is forcing it through the graphics drivers. Anisotropic filtering will work using the .ini files. Make sure you set the vsync settings to suit your monitor as without it, the game will just go nuts and try to render at like 500FPS - not good for your GPU!.

Also, my monitor is 2560x1440 165Hz, so YMMV with the .ini settings detailed in the last step. Adjust to suit.

1. install game
2. install patch ut2004-winpatch3369.exe (get here: https://unrealarchive.org/patches-updates/unreal-tournament-2004/patches/patch-7-3369/index.html)
3. copy 64-bit client t2004-win64-3369.zip contents into install directory (get here: https://www.moddb.com/games/unreal-tournament-2004/downloads/patch-3369-win64)
4. launch game from 64-bit exe. run game in dx9 mode.
5. exit.
6. configure config files...

there's 2 config file located in install directory "system" we need to work with:
ut2004-win64.ini
UT2004.ini

firstly, in ut2004-win64.ini, make sure of the following entries:
[WinDrv.WindowsClient]
WindowedViewportX=1920
WindowedViewportY=1080
FullscreenViewportX=2560
FullscreenViewportY=1440

//multiplayer framerate settings - explained in detail here: https://www.utzone.de/forum/showthread.php?t=4326
[Engine.LevelInfo]
MaxClientFrameRate=150.000000
[IpDrv.TcpNetDriver]
KeepAliveTime=0.005

//may need these entries for other renderers as well
[D3D9Drv.D3D9RenderDevice]
UseVSync=True
LevelOfAnisotropy=16
DesiredRefreshRate=165

//this needs to be added entirely
[FireWall]
IgnoreSP2=1

secondly, in User.ini, make sure of the following entries:

[Engine.Player]
ConfiguredInternetSpeed=10001

//this is so you can just type "H" in multiplayer mode and FPS will shoot to 144.
H=netspeed 10001

TIPS:
1. to show FPS in game, type "~" to bring up the console, -> then type "stat fps"
2. to show network stats, press "F6"

BTW, I installed the game in a VM first and then copied the install directory out to a separate drive on my host machine. If you're doing that, you just need to export the registry entries from [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Unreal Technology\Installed Apps\UT2004] from the client machine and import them to the host and adjust the "Folder" value as necessary.

UPDATE: I forgot about the widescreen patch which fixes horizontal FOV so things look less wonky and the HUD isn’t stretched. GitHub here: https://github.com/alexstrout/foxWSFix-UT2k4

UPDATE2: I found another important setting to change in ut2004-win64.ini to alleviate unnecessary high GPU usage (explanation here https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Unreal_Tournament_2004):

[D3D9Drv.D3D9RenderDevice]
ReduceMouseLag=False

'99, no doubt about it. It's my favorite out of the bunch.

Oh, I see you guys picked 2004, though... I have it, might dl later :oops:

So it seems like UT2004 is the one to get then? I'll download it later today / tonight...I'm on a shared connection (between 6 people) that only gets 750kb download speed. I do all my online gaming over LTE+ with my phone USB tethered to my PC. It works great. Ping on wired connection is 70+ on Quake Champions NA server, and on LTE+ it's 30...somehow it works and I can still be competitive, even with my aging hardware and overclocked 60hz monitor.

Awesome, just finished potting some pepper plants, anybody care to frag?

Aww man, missed that message :( How about we start a match in 1-1,5 hour? I'll also post this in the gaming section of the TPU Discord.

EDIT: I could join now for about 30 minutes

I just dropped in to see how it works, looks good all around :)

I bought and downloaded the game, but won't be on until tonight. Any chance of scheduling some games? It's not usual that I'd be able to hop on in short notice, I really only game a couple hours a week.
