TPU's Nostalgic Hardware Club

I miss Samsung HDDs. Just wanted to say that. :)

And why would that be ? Most of the time i encounter Samsung HDDs they are dead or with bad sectors... The 160GB sata II i did use on my test bench was solid, but did fall one time and did go to the scrap... I miss more the old SeaGate IDE drives, back then they were build so well.... Quantum drives were bad, as most of them are dead, or with bad sectors, and they all are also x3 times louder then any other brand lol, still like to collect them anyway huh... Conner HDDs are very hard to find in good cosmetic state, and even more to power up, and even less to not have bad sectors lol...

Playing with the T60 for few min.... Happy the machine is good, and what i throw at it, just works... CS 1.6 is still fun... But what is not fun is the god damn lagg from
cl_flushentity packet, that happened in servers... My best guess is that the WI-FI card is weak, and it has poor signal or something, i will replace that part, then will prob work better. Problem is locating exact parts for that machine is hard, when u dont shop from ebay....

Ofc i am opened to suggestions, if someone knows fix to the CS 1.6 nonsense....

I think I still have several Samsung 160GB drives in the basement. I had 3 of them in a Raid5 config just to see if I could. It worked pretty good from what I can remember, although not as fast as 3 74GB Raptors in Raid0. :)

Like all hard drive maker, there are defectives. Most Samsung HDDs were solid.
Yup I agree I had 3 1TB Samsung HDD's and they were pretty damn good 1 died after 10 years and the other two are as far as I know are still up and running in a PC I gave away about 5 years ago. I only stopped using them because I upgraded to an SSD and a couple of 2TB WD Red HDD's for the storage

Friends, what do you think about this card? Is it better than the standard GTS 250? It clearly has more RAM, but it is certainly not for mass sale and is implemented in certain machines. Why is the name GTS150?
I have the same card.
And yes; it's a strange card because GPU-Z shows me a GTS 250 instead of a GTS 150.
Device ID is 0615 = GTS 250

Got new stuff, mostly AT cases with AT PSUs inside... The server AT case is interesting.. And the insides even more Yamaha CD hah, and CWT PSU did not expet such parts... The mobo is no name, but with Panasonic caps next to the CPU... Few Compaq bomb proof cases and parts as usual.... Bag of mices, most are crap brands, 2 Logitech's and 2 Compaq's and 1 M$ Intelli mouse...

Where do you get all this stuff?

Welp "I'd tell you, but then I'd have to kill you" haha.....:roll:;)

Jokes aside, once upon a time, i had nothing, and i did look at local ads for cool stuff, i did buy exactly like 3 times expensive retro HW, then i was like "FK this i will have great stuff, and i wont be paying much for them", and the rest is history as they say......... This is a hunch, now someone maybe will be able to to understand what it is, but it is exactly what i said...

But to help a bit, i said it before too in older post... So aside from what i said, there are places where u can get stuff... For example flea markets (i don't go there), thrift stores (i also don't go there, there was only 1 of these in my city, did go and buy 1 socket 7 pc for 5$ lol, but there was nothing more of any value)... Other primary sources i use are local craigslist sites, i have specific way of searching every day for retro HW parts (is how i found and got the ThinkPad's T60...)... I also have AD myself that i look for specific parts, and the IBM stuff and these now i get are from that Ad, a guy did contact with me.... I also when search for items, if i see promising AD, i just ask the seller if he has items that are not in the AD, and some times i hit jackpot... Another place you can use is facebook marketplace, tho for some reason after 1 year of me having my AD there i got banned or something, as i cant enter marketplace lmao, it was useful to get 1 times cool parts (sadly the ABIT NF7-V2 was dead).. Another place that i don't use is electronic scrap centers, u can find there amazing stuff, tho i dont go there either....
But as i said at first, me wanting to have amazing stuff for dirt cheap is the main reason, i have what i have.... I still dont own Gravis UltraSound, or Pentium Pro 1M Black Edition, or Voodoo V 6000, or Quantum 3D, hell i still look for NorthGate Omnikey keyboard, but i have IBM Model F122, i did not think i would manage to score IBM Model F of any sort, 1 time i was very close to get Model F AT, but someone else did buy it hah, usually with my specific system, i get 90% of all cool stuff before everyone else, and no i don't sleep in the AD sites or use bots/ software, i am just smarter then most ppl....
1 example, a guy was selling Mushkin 2GB DDR500 rare and collectible memory, i did go to buy it ofc, and the guy was impressed i did go to the other side of the city with my bike, just for the ram kit, so he told me, he have more stuff, and will just give them to me....
Another example would be scrapper have AD for scrap, and i send him few 3Dfx pictures of cards, and ask if he has any, he said he do, and i got like 7 cards from him, all working hah...
3 example would be, some guy have AD that he sells s370 CPUs, i asked if he have other stuff, and well u can see the picture...
IMG_20171012_16223912.jpgIMG_20171012_162053.jpg

I saved shit load of cool and rare retro HW, over the years, from idiots that would throw them in the garbage, or from scrappers with hammers, or from the trash can, so i believe i deserve what i get, as i preserve the computer history...

I think this should bring come insights....
The guy i get the IBM stuff, said they had before Zenith systems and IBM PC XTs, but sadly they were scrapped looong time ago... I still hope somewhere these is at least one XT system waiting for me, that he did not see.....

Guess i will use as donor the ThinkPad R50, as is on spare parts anyway, and it is not high end model, and some parts are missing as well, but the stickers are there, so i can get them, and plant them on the amazing T60....

Really like these SeaGate Medalist drives, they look so nice, and the icon is also nice to look at.......

Welp just did steal these nice logos from the TP R50, and i am not ashamed to do so, now this T60 looks at is suppose to, RIP lenovo....

Greg put together a dope yesteryear's high-end workstation/HEDT gaming rig. X99 + 16-core BW-E Xeon + 1080 Ti SLI, damn :rockout:

edit: @Radical Vision damn, there's also new-in-box slotkets, cool!

Yes there was, but these were of the normal models, that support weak CPUs, so not my cup of tea... Would like to see Power Leap... But i got other better ones like the MSI Master 6905, that i know it can be modded to support Tualatins.. I have 2 of these 1 stock and one that came in modded with 1.3 Tualeron... I also got then the in box Lin-Lin adapter that allows me to use Tualatins without modifications....

Now new stuff in boxes, welp i dont have much of these... Only the Hercules PowerVR Kyro II even sealed, nGreedia NV1 new but bulk so it has no original box lmao, Tyan Slot A mobo that i believe is new, full boxed set original box too... Not sure what else, most parts are second hand... My primary IBM Model M came with german layout, and there was no signs of wear on any key, no glance, so i consider it like new, also when opened only 2 plastic rivets had fall... I have like 2-3 Model M122 RJ BattleShips, that are for sure new from what i can tell... The better ThinkaPad T60 with the IPS is also like new, not much signs of wear, still not new but very close to....
