Candles flare wildly before going out eh

Actiblizz was killing it too with CoD sales. Now they're part of MS

No they are not. Not final.

Also, they are killing it with sales. Stock up is 27% in a year.

Denuvo is a strict no buy for me.
imagine going into a store and get handcuffs on at the entrance because theoretically you could steal something... would be the last time i buy something there.

The game launchers by EA, Epic, Steam, etc are all a form of DRM requiring you to be connected to the web to play the bigger titles. DRM was also in the form of must require the disc to be in the drive just to start up the game. To me as long as the drm doesn't hamper performance or cause lagginess, then what am I to say that all drm is bad?
Because it has other negative effects too. Eg, if FO3 / NV, Oblivion, Skyrim, etc, were all Denuvo'd then .exe based mods (FOSE / OBSE / SKSE Script Extenders, etc) that "hook" into the game's .exe would have been impossible. If Stardew Valley were Denuvo'd then SMAPI would be impossible. If old games were Denuvo'd, many widescreen / compatibility patches that patch the game's .exe would have been impossible. If Denuvo had protected old-school (and now broken under W10/11) StarForce DRM, then many games (that still work with a NoCD patch) would otherwise be rendered permanently broken.

Likewise for the "If I can't see any difference in fps then there's no performance penalty" myth - one of Denuvo's biggest impacts is actually startup / load times rather than frame-rates. Here the 'scene' notes from Syberia 3 ("Game starts up about 40 secs faster without D so... yeah Denuvo kills performance". The GOG version also started up 8x faster too than the original Denuvo protected Steam version did. And that's a simple point & click adventure game. Want to know why starting / loading a save in RIME took ages? How about 300,000 Denuvo DRM checks during every single load... If you understand how the obfuscation + virtualization of Denuvo works, there is no "free lunch". Most people who claim to "not see any difference" are buying newly released Denuvo'd games for which there is no DRM-Free version to compare side-by-side, ie, they obviously won't "see a difference" if they can't actually compare it (and when they do they rarely include save / load times, only fps benchmarks). That doesn't mean there is no performance impact (fps or load times) it's just an "ignorance is bliss" thing.

Its easy to go up 27% when you've lost over 300% in a span of 4 years :D

I'm sure they're killing it in their minds and in the short term of a game release window. Stock still says another thing entirely, it says they went from 90 share value to 20 and now crawl back to 29. That's still a third of what they had. Covid made every tech company go up and up, Ubisoft went for its all time low. Read between the lines :)

Dumb question:
How do I even know if I have Denuvo, Easy Anti-Cheat or any other ghastly spyware installed?
I've checked through all my installed programs both in Control Panel, in Apps and an uninstaller to search for said crap. I know I definitely have Easy Anti-Cheat installed because a message pops up in one or two games at launch, perhaps Division 2, but I can't remember because I have so many games installed.
Edit:
Easy Anti-Cheat appears in C:\Program Files(86)\ but not in Windows installed programs. But if I uninstall it, I can't play the game.

Its get installed and uninstalled with the games. Not spyware really, trusted industry-wide. If you don't want it, uninstall the games that needs it :D

We are talking about Blizzard Activision, which he hate, yet they are doing just fine

I'd like to know how much Ubisoft focuses on PC market tho. Maybe most of their earnings are console

Enlighten me then :D
I showed you - stock price, I'm happy to admit I'm wrong...

No, I was talking about ubisoft. Chart also says UBI.PA. I even said Ubisoft again later in a post you quoted about them going up instead.

Now I get where we diverged, but this topic is Ubisoft. Actiblizz is just another example of how a company cán have good franchise sales, and still get bought up - in response to Chomiq talking about 2bn in sales for Valhalla - and théir stock price hasn't bled that much, they've recovered now in the light of MS's takeover (which is close to final, just with a few ifs and buts, most likely, but you're right).

Revenue != profit though... The gaming market grows so more revenue is natural in this space anyway.
I just looked at stock price. Not even sure what their profit margin is. So here it is. Somewhat different story than '2bn in Valhalla'...
Now you know why they've been diving down to 20 bucks/share not too long ago. Last 4 years have been a shitshow, its a net loss over those years and its not looking to improve.

I don't disagree with most people on this forum, mostly you
I'm mostly curious about why people think/do what they think/do. That's not disagreement, nor conflict, its analytical interest, and some things come out better with clearly stated posts.

Reality hurt?

Nope. Re read the conversation from page 1. You lost track in your vicious attempt to disagree and assumed I talked about something I wasnt, because then Id be wrong. Ergo a troll much like whats quoted above. Go crawl back into that cave of yours.

I don't like the DRM stuff. It was one of my main reasons for shifting from paying for games on any platform other than GoG; I don't want to be forced to have a digital platform active to run a game I paid for or have rootkit levelesque software that imbeds in your system and can't be removed without formatting. With GoG I can download the game files to my side, install, play and then uninstall without ever having to use any form of DRM to make sure the game runs.

There are some downsides to this - there will be games that I find interesting that will always have some sort of DRM tied to them and I'll never play them. I've learned to be okay with that because there are so many games out there and I still have so much on my backlog that it won't hurt my feelings if I don't play these few games.

To each their own, though. Those that don't mind DRM you can go about your life playing whatever game you want as long as you are able to satisfy the requirements of the game so it runs. To those that don't like DRM, well, all you can do really is vote with your wallet. Sure, you'll miss out on some games, but that's just the way it'll be. Neither side has any reason to judge the other side on why DRM is good or bad. You do you and enjoy what you have.

welcome to hell boys, you livin in it lmao

what a fucking scam the game industry is becoming. i was going to pay $15 to Ubisoft game sub thing so I could play Mirage not now, fuck that

@lexluthermiester GoG and Linux Mint til I die baby! :rockout::rockout::rockout::rockout::rockout:
Denuvo functionality has been snuck in after the Assassin's Creed: Mirage review embargo, denying critics the chance to assess its impact on the game.

Well they havent been denied, not sure if this mindset that something is only worth reviewing if it hasnt been released yet, download the patch, test it again, compare to pre denuvo, isnt hard reviewers.

Well they havent been denied, not sure if this mindset that something is only worth reviewing if it hasnt been released yet, download the patch, test it again, compare to pre denuvo, isnt hard reviewers.
if anything, this would give them the best apples to apples comparison one could have! if all they had was a game with Denuvo in it then I would think it's more difficult to assess its real impact

as said before I don't care about performance... its the fact that a shit load of hidden files are left on my PC after I uninstall Mirage when im done playing it is why I hate Denuvo.

they should have no right to permanently implant themselves on my personal property.

but i guess this thread likes to miss the plot, so i'll see myself out
