UHD is driving me nuts.

so here's the deal. I hae a pc with movies on it. They are mkv movie formats. They are also UHD 2180 movies. < that may have been redundant Anyways I have a serious issue with video playback. It's all sorts of choppy, lags like crazy and sound and audio are way off. I'm sitting here think about all the variables that may be causing this while researching as well. I have a Geforce GTX-760 4 gig, AMD fx6300 3.5 six core processor, G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 16GB DDR 1600 16 gigs, running on windows 10. After trying 3 different players I assume now that it must be a hardware issue. I have also changed a great many setting in the players I tested with. In the perfomace view it seems that all is running fine. Oh and also Im running a SATA hd with 7200 rpm. I feel like it may be the video card , but like I said there are so many variable. All other moies work fine on my pc. Also my 4k tv has no issues playing uhd movies through its apps. I am lost my friends and I'm loking for some direction befor I go and spend money on parts. I am now ready to receive an abundant amount of info from those that would like me to resolve this issue.
 
Yeah, you're missing a hardware video decoder for HEVC it would seem, at least I presume that's what the files actually are.
The card you have is fifth gen PureVideo.
Time to upgrade the graphics card.

This is part of your problem. The GTX760 was never designed or meant for 2160p content. It can do it, but only just and requires a solid CPU, which brings us to....

...this. This CPU is not one that can do 2160p content. Sadly, you need to upgrade. A Ryzen 5 1600 and a GTX 980, GTX1060 or better, or Radeon RX580, Vega56 or better would be ideal. You could get away with an AMD FX8350, which would be a drop-in upgrade for cheap, but it's only a stop-gap fix and you'd still need an GPU upgrade as well.

However, anything older than a GTX 1650 won't do 4:4:4 HEVC, although I think it's unlikely that the OP's source material is that high quality.
 
For AMD, any Polaris/Vega M or newer GPU should be able to handle HEVC at 4k.

Actually the Xbox One for example has an AMD 6970 or something, and it plays UHD blu-rays with no issues. So I don't think you really need a massive GPU just to run movies.

Hold on I don't think I read your response correctly. I get the gpu issue, but did you say that my cpu won't work as well?

So are you saying then that I need a player that supports hevc ..265 or should I try and convert the file?

It's a GCN 7870 equivelent.

Eh, I wouldn't say "far" superior but it's better for what it's worth. It's one of the worst consoles as far as raw power goes. I only use my S for controlling media on my TVs.

I mean literally, it is far superior to anything from VLIW.

PS4 cannot play 4K Bluray, that is the PS4 Pro with RX 480 GPU hardware.

Sorry, a 950 would be a down-grade in performance 760 and a 960 would only part-way side-grade and will only just do. It wouldn't be worth the money for either one. A GTX 980 would be worth it as would a GTX 1060. an RX580 or Vega56 would be solid Radeon options.

Correct. You need a CPU and GPU upgrade. As I said, an FX8320 or FX8350 will help(and you wouldn't need a new motherboard and ram), but you really should shoot for a Ryzen. Even a first gen Ryzen will be leaps and bounds better than the old FX line. If you're on a budget(and let's face it, a ton of people are right now) the used market is you best option. If you're in the states I can help you look on eBay if you'd like. Scratch that part about the FX line, I just looked on ebay and they are priced WAY too high.. So Ryzen then or a 6 core Intel should be what you aim for CPU wise. You'll need a new motherboard either way. As GPU's go the picture is a bit more rosy.

These are all just suggestions to help you get an idea of what to look for and what you're in for on prices.

In itself it is weak, and this has gone off-topic. The only reason PS couldn't play UHD BLU-RAYS was because of licensing issues. Gaming is not the topic.

No it is because it has a 7000 series GPU which cannot handle 4K playback.

The Pro can because it uses a much newer architecture = RX 480.

Superior was nothing to do with gaming performance, you labelled it yourself through misunderstanding.

Somehow the Xbox can but the PS can not with the same GPU then? How come this makes any sense? It was known that PS has licensing issues with BDs on their console.

BluRay is a SONY product LOL

The XBOX likely has dedicated hardware, this is why the S can play 4K BlueRay but the standard console cannot.

Only the S varient and X can playback 4K BluRay.

The OP only needs a GPU that can do GPU accelerated decode for UHD content, a new CPU shouldn't be necessary if the GPU is doing its job. A new CPU should only be necessary if there is an expectation that it'll have to do CPU decode if the GPU doesn't support it. Even my 3930k barely does anything when the Vega is decoding a stream.

Are you sure? I've been seeing this kind of problem a lot in my shop and even with a solid GPU upgrade, 4k playback seems to be more than an FX 6core/3module CPU can handle, especially with HEVC.

Same, CPU always held it back, Core i5 3550 cannot handle it yet the 2600X laughs at that and 8K.

Are you sure? I've been seeing this kind of problem a lot in my shop and even with a solid GPU upgrade, 4k playback seems to be more than an FX 6core/3module CPU can handle, especially with HEVC.
I haven't experienced it with the system in my specs or the 8550U in my laptop on the iGPU. Both seem to handle UHD content fine, but I'm also running Linux, so I might just be a unicorn.

This was discussed when these consoles came out, it was ironic that Sony's console couldn't do it. Seems like you're off with times since you're pointing that Blu-Ray is a Sony product. I'll stop here.

Right. The FX line is still fine for 1080p-anything and it can even handle 1440p. 4K+ is just too much for that line of CPU.

If I remember when I wake up, I'll see what CPU usage I have when playing back some UHD content. I'm on the laptop now and I'm about to go to bed.

8K 60 though and the CPU just wants to die.

Oddly CPU usage was very low though.
