Must be a typo, there's no such thing as PCI-E 2.1.

Its all backwards compatible, major difference is the bandwidth available. No real world noticeable difference for 99% of us.

And yes there is a 2.1 PCIe spec Kan.

PCI Express 2.1

PCI Express 2.1 supports a large proportion of the management, support, and troubleshooting systems planned to be fully implemented in PCI Express 3.0. But, the speed is the same as PCI Express 2.0.

All PCI-E GFX cards will fit all motherboards given it's got a full PCI-E slot. In some cases you may lose some bandwidth like X8/X4 slots.

I don't think any GPU out there today can take advantage of all the bandwidth of PCI-E 2.0.

there isn't much info available on wikipedia either, it only talks about some features integrated that will also be in pci-e 3.0 and that it has the same bandwidth as pci-e 2.0.
so I guess no major changes between 2.0 vs 2.1.

well that's what i thought ,
although it has bought that magic no 3.0 into the picture, i wonder when we'll see version 3.0 motherboards on the market and what tricks/problems they'll bring

Basicly nothing is diffrent, Its as simple as that.

Thats the only info i have seen, And as far as i can make out there is no benifit from 2.1 compaired to 2.0. If anything it maybe manages bandwidth better.

Gigabyte may have made a typo. The GPU determines the PCI-E version, not AIB (card manufacturer). AMD Cypress is PCI-E 2.1 compliant.
