Undervolting: why doesn't it work for me ?

Please be patient I'm new to this. So I tried undervolting my computer (Republic of Gamer windows 11) with throttlestop but for some reason it just doesn't changes anything for me. The temperature stays exactly the same. So basically what I did was setting the offset voltage: -160 for CPU core and -140 for CPU cache (I can set my CPU core offset voltage to -1000 without crashing, it's weird). But yeah, the temperature stays the same, I don't understand why perhaps I missed something important

That is normal. Adjust both the core and the cache together.

If you are power limit throttling or thermal throttling, reducing the voltage will allow your CPU to run faster. If power consumption is the same, temperatures will be exactly the same.

Turn on the Log File option and go play a game for 15 minutes so I can see how your computer is running. Attach a log and some screenshots to your next post.
 
Here's the FIVR window. Idk what that log fils thing is. Could you explain how do I do that ?

Check the Log File box on the main screen. This will create a log file in your ThrottleStop / Logs folder. It will have today's date in the file name.

Check the box, play a game for 15 minutes and then exit ThrottleStop so it can finalize the log file. Go into the Logs folder and Attach a log to your next post.

Your FIVR screenshot does not make sense. Press the Apply button so I can see if your requested voltage is being sent to the CPU. After you press Apply, you should see your -160 mV request for the core show up in the FIVR monitoring table under the Offset column.

If you want to undervolt the Intel GPU, you also need to undervolt the iGPU Unslice the same amount. If you only undervolt one of these, it probably will not do anything. Most people that a Nvidia GPU do not bother touching the Intel GPU or iGPU Unslice voltages.

In the FIVR window, I would recommend setting IccMax for both the core and the cache to the maximum, 255.75.

You have to undervolt both the Intel GPU and iGPU Unslice equally.

Set IccMax to the max for both the core and the cache.

Clear the BD PROCHOT box. This throttling is excessive and not necessary.
 
Still doesn't work. Temperature is the same. How is that possible ? It works for everyone else

Post an updated log file after playing a game for 15 minutes. Did you turn off the BD PROCHOT throttling? If you reduce the amount of throttling your computer is going to run hotter.

His laptop has a BD PROCHOT throttling problem that continuously tries to slow the CPU down to 800 MHz. There are no options in the BIOS to fix BD PROCHOT throttling problems, especially a laptop BIOS. You can use ThrottleStop to fix BD PROCHOT throttling as well as some of the other problems he has or you can toss the laptop in the garbage. Laptops are unusable for playing any games when throttling down to 800 MHz.

The MULTI column in the log file shows the CPU multiplier dropping down to 8.00. That is as slow as the CPU can run. When you fix this throttling problem, of course a computer is going to run hotter.

I did read your previous answer and did all what you said. The temperature is still the same. It's cooler because as usual my appartment is cold during night, Throttlestop don't seem to have any effect. Here's an updated log file. Thanks for losing time helping me

Before your CPU was slowing down to 800 MHz and consuming only 8W of power. With BD PROCHOT disabled, the CPU is running at up to 2800 MHz. Power consumption has more than doubled but that is OK because now the CPU is running 250% faster. A faster CPU also helps the Nvidia GPU run faster. More performance creates more heat. Those are just the laws of physics at work.

ThrottleStop don't seem to have any effect.
I do not think whatever temperature or performance comparison you are making is a fair comparison. If you think that ThrottleStop is not helping your computer run better then do not use it.
 
So, with BD PROCHOT enabled, the CPU runs slower. Shouldn't it be cooler then ? Because enabled or not the temperature stays pretty much the same that's what I don't understand. Same with offset voltage. I know it does something because when I push it too far the computer crashes, it just doesn't affect the temperature, the one thing I am trying to change

The CPU is running cooler when it is BD PROCHOT throttling. It is mostly under 60°C when BD PROCHOT throttling is kicking in. When not BD PROCHOT throttling, the CPU temperature slowly goes up to 75°C.

Most laptops have poor cooling. As you play a game, heat will build up inside your laptop and the CPU will automatically run hotter. An undervolt will help but it might not be enough to solve all of your temperature problems.

Even when BD PROCHOT is disabled, your CPU is still running slower than its full rated speed. That means it is constantly throttling. Your Windows power plan or Speed Shift EPP settings might be why your laptop is not running at full speed. Undervolting is not going to change the temperature in this situation. The undervolt reduces power consumption but that causes the CPU to run faster. You end up with power consumption being exactly the same after the undervolt. If power consumption is the same then you will not see any change in the CPU temperature.

Your CPU temperatures are fine in the log file. If you want cooler than normal temperatures then you will need to slow your CPU down some more. This will reduce performance.
 
It's fine, my performances is already pretty great I don't mind if it's reduced a little bit. So how do I slow my CPU down ?
 
It cannot go under 28.
The Turbo Ratio Limits control the amount of turbo boost a CPU uses. If 28 is the base multiplier for your CPU, that is as low as that setting can go.

If you want to slow your CPU down more than this, try lowering the Speed Shift Max value in the TPL window.
