please lets not starts another gpu debate its been helpful but dreadfully long LOL
i initially was going for the RTX 4060ti 16Gb because of budget but managed to get more $$$
so im buying RTX 4070 at 600€ here Portugal so no need for me to search across stores
there's always more cheap online but i trust my computer store for last 25 years LOL

Now you're set for some 4 or 5 years. I can't promise you'll stay with all bells and whistles turned on for such a time span, but it's a HUMONGOUS upgrade over your former 1660.

indeed, @wNotyarD !!! from 2017 GTX at 280€ to now 2024 RTX for 600€... much needed upgrade, at the rate games are growing - hungry little buggers LOL

speaking of 8-pins connector GPU as title imply...
why the PCI-E cable come with appendices from the 8-pins (into my GTX) comes out an extra cord with 6-pins and from that, a short cord with a 2-pins ???
will i need those extra pins for the RTX 4070 ??? i really want to cut-off the excess cord LOL (looking at scissors with desire)
extra cable just dangling there, ruining my cable management looks.

Those are pigtails also known as 6+2 pin. You'll likely need them. It would be most unwise to take a scissors to any cables coming from the PSU or any cable having to do with the PC at all.

Edit: Something looks off with your cables. Might want to make sure your using the right ones.

I don't see anything wrong with the cables. It is a 2x 6+2-pin, and a 4070 usually uses one.

@soundzen doesn't your RM750 have a cable with a single PCIe 6+2 connector? Or are all of its PCIe cables pigtailed?

pigtail ? such cute name... ok, let me check the box for other cables PCI-E ...maybe i left one without pigtails, thanks!
PS: dont worry, i wont cut the tails hihihih

Those extra 2pins is just ground. If the GPU is 8pin, it will need them as essentially sense pins and won't work otherwise. So its good to keep them, but they don't carry any voltage.

Corsair makes a native 12VHPWR cable to 2x 8 pin.... for when you grap a 4070 or any 40 series card with the new connector.

Kinda surprised one didn't come in the box maybe old stock. Oh corsair doesn't include one anymore cheap asses.... They use to give one for free figured they'd start including them in the box.

so ive checked and my 2 pci-e cables have pigtails 8/6/2... and no 12VHPWR either in box (foto of box lid). no matter, it works fine. thanks all ;D

Yes, that is what they call them, and they are for lower powered cards that have two PCIE 6 or 8 pin power connectors. You can use one cable to connect both connectors and not have to run 2 cables.

Now in your case with the new 4070 or new card with the 12VHPWR connector, you will need the adapter cable that oxrufiioxo posted or you will have to see if Corsair sells a cable for your power supply model.

Why use a 12VHPWR when the Gigabyte 4070 has a 8-pin connector? See the photo, the card is connected but the question was about keeping the pigtail dangling (which unfortunately it will still be there).

If I'm not mistaken, NVIDIA mandates 12VHPWR/12V-2x6 from the 4070S to higher.

EDIT: correcting myself, that photo looks to still be the 1660. However, a 4070 may have a 8-pin connector instead of the 12+4 as I mentioned just earlier.

I believe that is soundzen's old card and their new card has the 12VHPWR connector and they need to get the cable for it.

Yeah, I corrected myself with the edit. I don't recall @soundzen telling what 4070 make and model was purchased, so chances are an adapter still isn't required (and even if it is, doesn't it come bundled with the card?).

Yeah, they come with a 12VHPWR to 2x8 pin but it's ugly AF lol..

asus rtx 4070 dual white

sorry noob question - you mean the future pcie cable needs to be 12vhpwr on the PSU side and plug 2x8pins on the RTX4070 side? which i dont have with my corsair PSU but i can buy it seperatly? or gpu comes with it?

No, you can either get the cable I linked or use the included adapter that looks like and octopus that will come with the card lol.

Both plug into the psu with standard 8 pins and convert into a 12VHPWR connector thar plugs into the gpu the one I linked will just look alot better otherwise they'll perform identically.

An ASUS 4070 DUAL White like this?

If yes, no adapter required. It uses a single 8-pin PCIe connector.

yes that gpu... no needed adapter? oki doki, thx!
octopus, pigtail, what else for shopping list ? lol

true! never enough... even for 1080-amateur-chill gamer like me.
(games: skyrim / enshrouded / valheim / survival / build )

Didn't realize they swapped to a 12VHPWR only on the Super..... Good catch.

you guys know your stuff... saved me 30 bucks yay

Some non-supers do use the 12+4, but it's mostly on the top models (Aorus Master, ROG Strix and so on).

heres an RTX 4070 unboxing preview... sorry for big size images from cellphone!

ok so after 10 long minutes peeling off the sticky celophane protecting the all gpu (i was sweating LOL) i came across this micro switch.... MODE P/Q:

20240703_151755.jpg

so i googled it, and its a MODE choice between the P (performance) and the Q (quiet) to which i will choose (Q) because my games are not AAA tier... playing Enshrouded.

You aren't losing much by choosing the Quiet mode, but it ain't like it would be a screamer in Performance:
