Yeah d3d overrider and wait , what about triple buffering ? Usually on personally.

I havet tested it both on and off, first, I have never experienced "mouse lag" (might be I don't notice it), also I think mine is like always on in the CP for the graphics card and games aswell.

But that it actually lowers GPU temp is new to me. So thanks for that information.

as an example situation: if you can get 80FPS in that scene, Vsync locking it to 60FPS would free up the power used for the next 20FPS - meaning a few GPU cycles and CPU cycles go unused, saving on power and heat.

of course, there is no saving if your system is barely reaching 60FPS, or not reaching it at all.

(basically, the less demanding the game, the more of a saving you get)

I leave Vsync off in Online MP FPS, all the rest i leave it on, unless there is no option, like POP Forgotten Sands. It runs at 170FPS lol, dam i need vsync on it

use D3Doverrider

with rivatuner. as stated on the last page.

Does AB and precision have this? Or Nvidia CP?

I dont riva anymore since it stopped updating. Unlike branded ones

Always on for any game that goes above 60fpx for me.
Hate the tearing w/o it

You make no sense to me. If you use vsync, I don't understand why you use these trifire and tri/quad SLi configs. I'm sure it's fun though. :)

umm wow good thread, I have always kep vsync off, but with the 295 it seems I do experience a bit of tearing in older games, So thanks for the tip!:)

I find that Vsync lowers my gpu temps by up to 10-20 dregrees celcius! It's great to use with my Xfire and SLi setup.

i used it with crossfire, because who needs more than 60FPS on a 60Hz screen? waste of power (literally, waste of electrical power/heat). You get more FPS in the games you need it, and you dont waste any power when you dont.

Because of this!!!!!!!!!!!!

2 or 3 GPUs with the fans at idle sound a lot better than 1 GPU with the fan screaming.

GPUs closer to idle use less power

It is better to have way more power than you need right now

Vsync just makes things look more beautiful

Playing games without Vsync is like playing games without your glasses

You just aint getting the big picture....

+1, Like i didn't need 160 FPS in POP. Oh and i forced vsync in NVIDIA control panel. LOL much better. Temps went from 75C to 60C

While a GPU closer to idle uses less power, 3 GPU's uses 3 times the power of a 1 single GPU. It is also possible for 1 single GPU to eat more power than several weaker GPU's. That is not a simple A to B comparison as their are a lot of variables to consider.

Also Vsync does not may your games look better. It simply prevents a issue created by the difference in refresh rate and motion update of what is being displayed. Long story short, it stops this from happening.

Like several people have said this, issue does not always happen and can vary as to how bad and how distracting it is and it has other benefits due to how it is implemented. I chose to optimize my game for speed and responsiveness (especially for FPS's like Erocker said) and just pick and chose when I think Vsync is needed. I just find is not needed for me 95% of the time.

Vsync should always be off by default simply because it varies so much from game to game. In a game like crysis turning it off improves frames, in an old school game that never dips below 60 it should always be left on. What I'd like to see is a selective option to enable it in multiples of your refresh rate, as I've found 240 FPS to be smoother than 60 even on a 60hz monitor.

Always on except when benchmarking. Tearing drives me nuts and I do like that it limits the load on the card.

+1 QFT
I got D3DOverider and have it triple buffer and vsync all my games (unless the game has its own vsync) after I found games like Sims 3 to "overuse" my gfx card to produce hundreds of frames, all but 60 of which are useless.:shadedshu
Played a tiny game (Gyromancer) without it's own vsync; it used my card and produced more heat & noise than DiRT2, not to mention the power usage; that's when I decided, vsync for life.:rockout:

I don't use it, I don't get a constant 60+ fps in newer games...
For some older games I use it because of gigantic tearing issues (like titan quest).

Vsync on always for gaming now.. until I get me hands on one of them nifty 120hz lcd monitor :D

why not leave it on when you do, Vsync will cap you to 120Hz...

Probly wont reach 120+ anyways (of course, this depends on the game hehe).. and I think below 120 would make it 60fps? (correct me if im wrong.. was reffering to the way vsync goes to 'next lower fps level' when it does not reach cap..) would rather see 90fps than 60 or 43fps than 30..
