Personally, I would hold off until the end of the month before building a new computer, especailly if you want to build a AMD based system. AMD is about to release thier new line of processors(suppose to be by the end of this month), which will undoubtably out perform thier currently available processors, and possibly out perform what Intel has available. If you don't want to wait, then I suggest going with a Intel socket 1155 build. The Intel socket 1155 sandy-bridge processors offer alot more CPU power than what AMD has available right now.

here's my suggestion for a build for you-

Since you said you would mostly be doing video converting with the computer, I went ahead and included the fastest CPU available today and 8 gigs of RAM since you will be able to use those parts full power. I also included a low end video card since I don't know how good the integrated video chip on the sandy-bridge CPUs are. The video card I included will insure that you have no problems playing any 1080p or higher videos. Also, you don't need a 700 watt PSU for a non-gaming build. Actually, that PSU I included is more than you'll need.

My only hardware comments are that you should go for 8gb memory. The stuff is dirt cheap, and I believe Phenom is a dual memory channel cpu right? So you get better performance with 2 sticks, and you don't want to limit yourself to only 8 gigs maximum. So go for a dual channel 8gb kit.

When you do your first build I would suggest picking a brand name case as big as you have room for. You don't want to have bleeding hands because you don't have room to move inside the case. And get one with a proper cpu backplate cutout.

Just have a good workspace, like a dinnertable, with decent lighting. A good philips screwdriver, and some small plasticstrips. And check your manual whenever you're in doubt :)..

Have fun!

will start the first of october on this..

Then I suggest you wait and see what will the new AMD chips bring (if the rumored release date is true).

I would got with one of the non black edition 6 cores personally, only a case of changing FSB instead of multiplier to overclock them and reportedly most of them overclock nearly as well as the black edition parts.

Mine does that's for sure (although my overclock is conservative due to cheap motherboard)

I'd also get a motherboard without built in graphics and get a discreet gpu, a lot of video editing software supports GPU acceleration ( graphics cards are great at rendering so it makes sense)

Although doesn't matter to much as you can always buy one further down the line if needed.
