Watercooling is HOT!!!

Ok i got a problem, and idk whats going on..

I got my watercooling, it was doing great, cpu was at 35c idle under an overclock of 3.5GHz.. then the next day I went to use the computer, and it now runs at 47c idle, and 56c load.. My max stable overclock has gone to 3.2GHz now, and i neeeed the temps to go down..

I've tried reseating the waterblock, lowering voltages(still is hot @ 1.25v, 903MHz) and cleaning the waterblock and heatsink in rubbing alcohol..

I have SOME.. not much at all, but some, air in my waterlines, but it was there in the beginning. I need a reservoir still, i've been using a Tline, but it hasnt been getting rid of the air.

Hopefully you guys can help me out here.. I wanna get this going before the week starts, and dreaded school is ontop of me once again.. lol..

Dangerden TDX775, Xoxide 2x120mm radiator, Swiftech MCP655 pump... 1/2" diam. tubing.

Now my system wont POST, so im starting to wonder if the cpu was crapping out on me.. hrm...

It went from like... 33c ish, to 37c, to 43c, to 47c, idle.. and now it doesnt boot. I was installing mozilla, running on stock speeds and voltages, and it asked for a reboot. rebooted, and it didnt come back on.. turns on, but no POSTing... :-(

you prob have the heatsink wrong and it's not making good contact I had that problem with my Pent 4. Just make sure that the heatsink isn't resting on the capacitors next to the socket. and the indent on the heatsink is over the capacitors.

the waterblock is nowhere near any capacitors,

I checked the contact, its full contact, and i spread it evenly before applying.

Im not a noob, those years were like.. 3 years ago, haha and ohhh what mistakes were made then.. I got the heatsink on properly, cpu mounted right, everything seems to be correct.

I got 3 short beeps out of my bios, im going to go check what that means right now...

Try resetting your CMOS. When I installed a new cooler on my Athlon XP 2200, my comp wouldn't post, and it was giving me three short beeps. Somehow a checksum error occoured, it might help you out.

your symptoms sound like u have buggered up your cpu.. bad luck if u have but its what i would be thinking..

didnt get a stock heatsink.. got a typhoon with it.. it was OEM

all is good now though, idk wtf is going on.. I took the board out, blew on it for a while, stuck it back in, and it works

**The new BIOS flash gets me 8 hour Prime95 stable 3.45GHz @ 1.48v.. w00t!!

Still running a bit hot on stock cooling though.. 43c now.. Whats going on with this? contact is perfect, flow is great(air is removed) and everything is working like clockwork

I cant feel the heat from the radiator though.. not sure if im supposed to feel alot of heat or what. I think I may put it on ebay and get a Black Ice II radiator from dangerden. maybe a 3x 120mm this time. or a 2x120, and a 1x120mm to mount on the side. :-D lol.. my bday is in november..

Try getting some artic silver 5 and put it on the cpu, then on with the typhoon

back to the same turn on no video display stuff again.. could the pci-e bus in the motherboard be bad? rma anything? ahh idk what to do..

try touching the waterblock while the comp is running. that should tell you if the temp sensor is working right. if it is warm then touch the waterline as it should also be warm.

what its sounding like to me is you arnt getting enough waterflow...try running the loop strait from pump>block>res>pump.

my flow is fine, and the block is room temp/below my body heat to the touch..

i really dont know where to go from here...

Idk if they let you test parts @ CompUSA, and none of my friends have socket775, let alone conroe capable

**why would it have worked before when I blew it off? I prime tested for 8 hours, 100% stable. installed Aquamark, rebooted, and went to BIOS to check temps, sat there for 5 mins, and it locked up and rebooted.. idk whats going on!!!

They don't have to be Core 2 Duo capable. You can test everything out except the Core 2 on another system, and if all of them work fine, this means that it's the Core 2 Duo. I believe that CompUSA will let you test out parts, not sure though if they charge or not.

my ambient temp is well below 75f. i have an airconditioner blowing right onto and inside of the case, and its set to level 5 fan, @ 60f.

I have 2 video cards, and im sure they work, as ive tested both in the system as working, and then put the other back in the box for now, while i fine tuned the comp.

the RAM, idk, because its DDR2, and nobody has a DDR2 capable rig. I've tried both sticks seperate, and it didnt work either.

as far as the cpu, it turned on, booted, everything, temps were in the acceptable range, 44c when it shut off. waterblock was not hot. paste contact was excellent.

PSU was used in my last system, and that worked fine as well. 12.20v for the 12v rail, 3.2v for 3v rail, and 5.1v for 5v's..

hrm.. as I cant test the processor, but it has been working every now and then, idk what to diagnose to that. Should I RMA the processor? Idk if i still have an RMA period for it.. ill check right now.

the conroe was one of the first parts I ordered, and has a 30 day exchange policy through tigerdirect, and the RAM has a lifetime warranty.

I may ship tigerdirect the cpu, just to make sure. I may even RMA the motherboard, because that is like, the veins of the whole computer.

I need some help.. whats stumping me is why it worked when i took it out and put it back in, and then it worked for 9~hours.

**not related to this topic, what is the standard speed of PCI-E? 100MHz, right? my friend is arguing that its still 66MHz like AGP.

pci-e > AGP ALWAYS.
And yes it's 100mhz.

PCI E isn't necessarily better than AGP. Many cards don't even take up 8x bandwidth that AGP has (except the 7950GX2). Most cards that have an AGP counter part (like the X850XT) perform the same on either PCI E or AGP.
