Ahh, okay, gotcha! Just got home for lunch and launched FFXIV:ARR to tes it out right quick and it played for the little bit I was in the game, but it had a random freeze/stall and then another freeze shortly after and my monitor came up with the No DVI Signal screen and then the screen turned back on and went back into the game? What could that possibly be?

Sorry I'm such a noob, guys, but FX, what could have caused that? Any number of things? I think I might try to revert to the drivers before these latest ones were released, also....another thing that happened during lunch, I loaded up Merto: LL, and it was running fine at 60 frames during the initial cutscene and then when the, I forgot their names, monster pop out and everything goes into slow-mo....I was getting insane drops in FPS...at that point I was at about 15-20Frames, and the card was throttling the core clock speed to around 500-700Mhz? Is there an option to enable full power all the time, and not have it be throttling back and forth?

Common issues that can cause a TDR:

  • Incorrect memory timings or voltages
  • Insufficient/problematic PSU
  • Corrupt driver install
  • Overheating
  • Unstable overclocks (GPU or CPU)
  • Incorrect MB voltages (generally NB/SB)
  • Faulty graphics card
  • A badly written driver or piece of software, but this is an unlikely cause in most cases
  • Driver conflicts
  • Another possibility that people tend not to like to hear, is that you are simply asking too much of your graphics card. What I mean by this, is that if you have your settings too high and the graphics card struggles and falls to very low FPS, then something graphically complex occurs, the GPU may not be able to respond and a TDR error may occur
  • Some users have experienced TDR errors whilst browsing the web with the 280.xx, 285.xx and 290.xx drivers. Please head to this link to clarify if this is relevant to you - this is quite a specific issue which seems to predominantly affect web browsing as opposed to gaming. There are no categoric fixes but some users have found that changing the power management mode to 'Prefer Maximum Performance' has helped. Source
At this point tho I would consider doing a clean install of Windows and leave the GTX580 out of it.

If you have a spare hdd laying around you could try doing a clean install on that to see if you have the same issues. The only bad part about this with Windows 7 is Windows updates take forever :(

Aww, man....just did a clean install of W7 last night, fully updated and everything. When I get out of work and get home, I'll uninstall the 580, see if it works that way. I'll post back when I've tried it! Thanks again, everyone, for all the help/tips/tricks/advice everyone has given me, very new to this place and I think it's safe to say already that I absolutely love you all, lol.

Download SP1 ahead of time and install that right after you're done with a clean install. It will save you a lot of time instead of installing each update over the interwebs.

Good tip. All of my Windows 7 images have SP1 baked in.

I think...I finally...got it, guys...! I really...really...really think so! I got home today, swapped drivers, because with the latest installed and trying to load up Mafia II to try the Physx, the game was telling me I didn't have Physx installed? It comes pre-packed with the lastest drivers for crying out loud!? Well, I reverted back to the old drivers I was using on my 580, hopped in Mafia, worked flawlessly!

Then I tried Metro: Last Light, worked for a few minutes, then it would either crash, or my audio would make this disgusting sound and then crash and I'd have to restart to get sound back, tried a few more times and the same thing would happen. I finally decided to go into the BIOs mess with those link state PCI-E options, mess with the RAM timings by turning them down back to what the board itself auto sets, and then Metro ran like a gem...go back into the BIOs enable the XMP settings which turns it on to 2133Mhz....and instantly get crashes in metro....go back into the BIOs and set my speed at 1600mhz...works, then back to 2133, fails, and then I tried 2000Mhz and so far everything has worked flawlessly....no more crashes in anything I play!?

Weird thing though, the ram I bought was on my Mobo's QVL and everything, the timings, the rated speed...but it just doesn't work? I dunno what gives, but everything seems to be fine at 2000Mhz.
