Alright, sorry to make another thread but this is a totally different question.

I want a new fan that is a 4 pin.

Upon checking fans out on Newegg I noticed something. There are 12-15 different types of sockets! :O

So my question is which socket do i need?

Mobo: ASUS M4A785-M AM3/AM2+/AM2 AMD 785G HDMI Micro ATX AMD Motherboard

Do you need a CPU cooler, or just a fan?

Fans are what goes on the cooler and has little to do with a socket type.

I need a fan. Which i will most likely get a fan that comes with a heatsink. Does that matter?

A fan is a fan, the cooler is the metal body the fan straps to.

Depending on the cooler, the fan can matter. Assuming you are moving from a stock cooler, just about anything is going to perform better.

Yea i am going from stock.

I think i am going to get a fan WITH a heatsink. Help with cooling levels, and it dosnt cost toooo much more.

So, socket is going to matter correct?

yes it is going to matter, you just need to make sure the cooler you choose has AMD mounting.

To add to Sneeky's advice, AM2 through AM3 use the same exact mounting system, so don't blow your gasket trying to figure out if a socket AM2 cooler will work on an AM3 socket. They are the same in that regard.

Alright, so to verify.

Since the Mobo is socket am2/am2+/am3 i need a socket Am2 or Am3 fan?

AND, i can use EITHER socket am2 or am3?

Correct? :)

Wicked, and yes. Had i thought about the title and the question i wouldnt have called it a fan lol.

Making myself look like a fool! xD

And that will work with my mobo and processor and all that jazz? Will fit?

Sorry for all the questions, just really dont wanna buy it and be like...damn. xD

No prob at all...TPU is a very cool/understanding place....

There are many different coolers, some better than others but the AC Freezer is quite famous for being an excellent value.

That cooler is a very good fit for what you have. (It fits MANY mobos new and old)

No you're not. Just looking inexperienced.

What case do you have?

Great! Was just reading through reviews and it seems the only 'problem' people have is getting it in lol. But i read that i just have to take my mobo out to make it much easier to work with. Sounds great. Lovin this site, many questions all answered in probably less than an hour.

Might stick around here ;)

Stock case. The only thing i am slightly worried about is the cords that cross my mobo. Right now they are plenty far away from my fan on the heatsink, but if that one is any taller than it may be a small problem. Which i should be able to fix by just moving the cords around.

Case is the case from the HP Pavilion a6683w. Like i said, stock.

LOL, I have used them for years and installing them is EXTREMELY easy.

Welcome

He was asking about ur case to make sure the fan would fit, many cases are different in thickness/height. The cooler I linked to is perfect size for 99.9% of comp cases
