What GPU would work best?

An easy way to determine the size of a card is by comparing it to the expansion slot (io) plate.
From the looks of it the HIS card you linked is using the reference PCB layout so it should fit in just fine.
But be careful that you need an extra bit of room to fit the 6-pin power connector at the end of the card.

Yes thats VERY true and i was looking at that when i measured his card to see if the 6pin connector would fit also and to be honest im not sure im going to have to "test" it to be sure. (when Bro goes to bed) lol

When the card is 8.25'" and the power connector is about 0.25" sticking out of the card, it should just fit fine, but yeah you need to be sure.
Also there needs to be a little bit of room for the cable to bend.

I'm guessing if this rig is for LAN you would also be using a rather small monitor to minimize hauling a too much.

I am still using my HD4850 and it's doing well at 1440X900.
Although do want to upgrade soon.

Spot on Widjaja thats why i didnt want to realy go any bigger then 1680*1050 rez monitor. My brother uses a Samsung 19" wide-screen 1440*900 with that card and seems to run great at that res. And i just happen to have someone trying to sell me there old computer and they have the same size monitor so all is looking good hehe

Only thing about the 1440X900 monitors is some games do not support it properly and cause some people to complain about the letterbox effect they get.

I currently have a couple of games I am playing at the moment Driver San Francisco and L.A. Noire which do not support it (Ironically from consoles) but seriously I don't see the big deal.
I still enjoy both games.

maybe? i think his is a 940 syncmaster? the one i hope to be getting is a 931BW syncmaster.

Ahh ok yea fair enough, i dont think my brother has come across any yet, if he has he manually changes it in the text file to suit his monitor. I dont play those two games and most of the games it will be playing is multi player games, like L4D and Killing Floor, C&C etc those sorta games.

If it's the 940b it would not be widescreen.

The 931BW is the one I have.
The monitor has a strange ghosting due to a poorly implemented 2ms boost which the panel they eventually used can not handle when HDR is in effect.
It's not bad but it is a problem.
The other problem is the poor quality caps they used.
My monitor died on me due to a failed cap, but was easy enough to replace.
Also you will be able to see heat marks on the plastic backing on the power supply part of the PCB.

Here is two pictures with my Bro's 4850 installed, just quickly put it in and ran it for 30mins, as you can see it fits pretty good, and the system seems to run nicely with it in also.

If i go any longer its going to be very tuff to get the 6pin power connection in to lets say a 7770? but im not sure?

Ok guys, i have come up with a list of GPU's that i might buy for this comp as my brothers 4850 runs way to hot imho when the side cover is on (over 80c) and its winter here, so it would hit over 100c in the middle of summer im sure of it.

Anyway as all said get the 7770, now i want one of these but there all cutting it way to close for length. Most are hitting 21cm or a little over and i have a total space of 22.2cm and you gotta take into account the 6 pin connect also (1.2cm) I could risk it and i might get lucky and the 7770 will fit but i dont know. There was 1 7770 that be perfect its the MSI NON OC version and it would fit with ease but cant buy it here in Australia

Also im looking for a card that blows the hot air out the back of the case to reduce heat inside the case, thats the problem i have with my brothers 4850 at the moment.

So here is my list so far;

Up to 110degC before I installed a AC Twin Turbo on it.
It would be lucky to break 56degC now.

The 7750 should be fine for the screen res you are aiming for.
Fro a biased opinion I would go for the Sapphire only due to having good reliability with their cards.

Yea this 4850 will run cool with the side panel off gets to a max of 65c or so, soon as i put the side panel on it creeps up to 80+

Im also leaning towards the 7750, ive decide that ill use two old monitors i have to take to the LAN and there res are 1280*1024 and going by the benchmarks the 7750 is as good if not better then a 4850?

I did get the 4850 to drop 10c just be removing one of the back (what you call it) panels, so i might get a grill panel and install it.
