What 'hidden gem' of a game did you enjoy the most, that you haven't played in a long time?

emperor - battle for dune..... , they are not seeling anymore to GOG/steam/origin/uplay.... why ?
THANK YOU! I been seeing seek peak in Red Alert 2 way back in the day but never had a chance to play it, this might be the time I do so

Speaking of space games, has anyone mentioned Freelancer?

Area 51 was a decent PC game in 2005. I remember my Mom buying this for me at Walmart, lol I was allowed one game every two weeks she would take me.

I remember playing the game this was based off of in arcades.

Didn't know that! I'm currently grabbing it from a certain place. Also discovered there is a modern system update for it called Project Dreamland. Gonna grab that too.
Discovered that this game has been declared openly free. It's stuck in legal oblivion, but perfectly free to download, mod & play. As such, posting the links won't violate forum rules. (at least I hope not)

However the discussion at the site below refers to mods that serve to make the game better for modern systems.
The ModDB download servers are faster so this link is just for info reference.

You're thinking of the 1995 light-gun arcade title of the same name that inspired this title.

Freelancer was not a hidden Gem but great shout anyway.
It was hidden enough for me to discover it only about 10-15 years after its release.

mine is "Shadow of the Colossus" and "Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks" I played the first one on PS2 and 60FPS with PS3. The PS3 Version is smooth. they rerereleased(!) it for PS4 too but I don't think it has anything new to offer.
I have bittersweet memories of MK: Shaolin Monks. Sweet because I played the heck out of it with my brother in cooperative mode. Bitter because it got too difficult by the end, so I gave up on it. By the time I thought about playing it again, my brother had already sold it along with his PS2. I've managed to get a PS2 and the game since then, but now I live in another country.

Freelancer was so popular that by the time it was 5 years later. You could buy budget copies at Walmart for $4.99. The lack of joystick was a bummer but mouse and KB are what we grew up on (Still can't believe I finished Silpheed using KB&M).

You actually got me thinking of another Hidden Space Gem in Darkstar One.

Heavy Rain and my PS4 just died and I foolishly just bought a PS5 Slim Disc Edition(my PS4 was pretty much a BD player) But I really hope my PS4 games like RDR2, Detroit Beyond Human and obviously Heavy Rain will be available

I thought PS5 was backwards compatible with PS4 games? So what are you worried about?

It might have not been that popular in Hungary, I guess (I used to live there back then). Heck, I used to think even Homeworld was a hidden gem, only to realise how popular it was when I moved to the UK.

Another great one! And it's currently on sale for $2 at GOG!
Good shout, I just bought it. :toast:

Oh yes! With David Duchovny's voice as the main character. A true gem. :)

Got this on my list of games to replay. David Duchovny does the main voice and I thought it was awful. I was psyched when I saw he was doing voice work for the game since I'm a huge X-Files fan, but man his voice work is just awful in this game and I felt he did a great disadvantage to the game because of it. I thought the game was an okay shooter, but the overall experience would have been better with someone that could actually drive emotion into their lines.

I think this is one of those games I can't get installed and running on Windows 10 with the physical copy. I'll have to cheat my way to getting it to work.

You know what.....you guys all suck. I have this game and I never even opened it yet. Guess it's another one to add to my list of games to play. I can't believe I have so many games I haven't opened nor beat yet in my physical collection.

As far as I remember, he didn't really voice anything within the game, only in briefs between missions. It was more of an internal monologue, so perhaps a narrative, emotionless style is what the director wanted.

A virtual machine, perhaps? :)

I just don’t know yet but Im sure that’s the case

I'm not going to say it's the greatest game ever, but it's solid fun!
Is this the one with an abrupt ending? If yes, then I agree it was fun to play through. Once.

Cannon fodder on the Amiga 500 or Atari jaguar.
Subnautica although just started playing again with a few mods in the last few days.
Young Merlin on the Super Nintendo, I prefer it to Zelda and other games like it for some reason lol.

Perfect example, never heard of that one! Wish it was on GOG.
I have it somewhere (box with 3 cd’s iirc) the Starforce in it was brutal so there is no way around it and it sits. There is an in-depth guide on PC Gaming Wiki to get it running though. It was a pretty fun game (although probably only for 1 playthrough). It had David Duchovny as the main character.

EDIT: and now after reading to the end I see you’ve already discovered all that. Oh well.

yes, a very long time ago, i love it very much, but i dont know, why no 1 is going to remaster it, today ?

no 1 sell this game anymore in GOG or steam.... its too sad.

this 1 of the best RTS in that years ago.

It's up to EA because EA owns Westwood. They don't even remaster the ever popular RA2.

EDIT: Speaking of Westwood, I just remembered this. C&C Renegade. Westwood attempt to making their RTS in FPS format.

This game is overshadowed by other FPS coming around the same time, most notably Medal of Honor Allied Assault. The single player campaign is a bit short, AI is clunky but I love this game. SP campaign just expand the lore of the game and explain more about certain aspect of it, like blue Tiberium, and project Re-Genesis about mutating human with Tiberium to create super soldier. Most people remembered this game for it's multiplayer component which is a lot of fun. Fun fact this is one of few games that support ATi Truform.

Okay, Final Fantasy XIII does escape my love as I generally just don't care about the series after X/X-2, and XIII is no exception to that, but I did like Final Fantasy II. It was definitely rather flawed though. It would have been interesting to see what Square might have been able to do if they attempted revisiting the concept because the concept was actually interesting, it just had a poor execution. Final Fantasy II is many times better than Final Fantasy III and I will not move from that hill! Actually, no, I take that back... "crossing those hills" is my favorite pastime.
I admit that FF II has a stupid leveling system which makes OPing characters hella easy. But I like that when I play normally without grinding, I almost always usually have enough leveled characters when playing normally.
