I think buying a seasonic or corsair would be a better idea.

To elaborate on this, it's not only because noname PSUs like this are likely to fail, but when they do, they have the potential ability to damage any part connected to them. Which is basically your whole computer.

Yeah, it may look cheap, but it could end up very expensive...

Segotep isn't a completely unknown brand, but they aren't known for selling good quality units either. I'd save up for something better.

If it's like this unit, for example, it's got a fake 80PLUS certification. No company worth their salt uses fake certs.

i would look for reviews of the psu from sites with good rep's. I had a buddy some years ago i gave him a gtx780(like 6-7 years ago) he had a no name psu that was 750 i think. Short things is that psu could put out the watts that 780 needed and died. Moral is a no name psu saying 1000watts might not be able to do that power they claim without frying itself. Said buddy lucky didn't fry any hardware only psu died and he learned that of all hardware you can look for deal on, the one you don't skimp on is PSU as it can cause so many problems and burn up hardware.

As I noted way back in 2020 here,

research shows they are not a new brand as they've been around over 15 years - at least in China.

I found several PSU reviews that generally found little to complain about - though they didn't rave about them either. The general consensus is they offer decent service and value for the money.

Having said that, I agree with the others and GerKNG especially. The power supply is not the place to cut corners in the budget. This is because, among other things, everything inside the case depends on good, clean, stable power.

PSU makers (OEM's) are just a few, if you go with a CWT, FSP or a Seasonic you cant fail. The brand it's not importatnt beside warranty, for me at least.
Just look for reviews before buying, here or HWBusters.

This can help also picking one:

Cheers!

Great mention with Cybenetics!

I would stick to one simple rule when buying PSU: don't buy ones not having any professional and decent reviews online (at least load regulation, ripple and protections). I would prefer ones having few to be more sure. Personally I wouldn't buy PSU which doesn't come from established and reputable brand (in case of warranty) and isn't certified by Cybenetics. Cybenetics share their database, reports of PSUs which are like quality reviews and perfectly comparable with each other. In general garbage PSUs aren't certified here or at least I don't recall any.

Dont cheap out on the power supply, cheap out on getting a used processor, used ram, or used SSD, but never power supply. Hech, my friend bought everything used besides the power supply. He built a 12700kf and 3080 for under $650 with brand new power supply, EVGA 750w gold rated power supply.

I meant that I have never happened to see garbage unit among their reports
Aris is not going to risk tens of thousands of dollars in test equipment just so he can put on a spark show plus no names brands are not sending their junk out for testing.

so ones certified. Is it clear?
Not really but I'm not sure there is a point to continue the discussion so I'll leave it alone

Sorry for being late to reply to this topic, but for a website that had crmaris as a power supply reviewer, it is quite surprising that most users do not know Colorful/Segotep/Chaintech/Fortech and deride them as if they were on the same level of terribleness of OEMs such as Linkworld/Deer/Diablotek that produce actual fire hazards.

Colorful (Or Colorful Group, to be more precise) is one the oldest and biggest manufacturers of various computer components in Asia. Back in 1995, their previous name as an OEM was "Seethru". They historically held the biggest marketshare of Nvidia graphics cards in China, and they were mostly known for their motherboards and graphics cards.

Segotep and Chaintech are brands owned by CFG (Colorful Group). Their power supply platforms are used and/or rebranded by other brands.
Enermax is a major brand that used Chaintech/Segotep/Colorful/Fortech PSU platforms previously, and they perform well in those applications.

"Segotep" and "Colorful" branded power supplies are akin to CFG selling their power supply platforms straight from the factory and have a lot of reviews found on non-english websites, and their modern power supplies perform well.

Usually though, their base platforms that they sell use second tier capacitors such as Samxon/Teapo/Capxon/Elite (Which are not bad per se, just cheaper compared to Japanese branded capacitors.) and cheaper Rifle/HDB fans as compared to the likes of Enermax that like to use full coverage of Japanese capacitors coupled with higher end fans in their units. Segotep's higher end units use Japanese capacitors, though.

Also, 110V certification is harder to pass than 220V. You can get away with cheaper switching mosfets used on a full bridge primary topology design that uses four mosfets, but it will fail to perform well on lower input voltages as compared to a half bridge primary topology that only uses two but much more capable (and expensive) switching mosfets. If a psu performs well at 110V, it will have no problem passing said tests on 220v also.

Segotep PSUs have found themselves in hwbusters(crmaris' website) "Best ATX v3.x & PCIe 5.x Ready PSU Picks" so it is not out of the question that Segotep/Chaintech/Coloful power supplies can also compete in performance, and not just in price. To be specific, The Segotep GM750M is the best on the "ATX v3.x Transient Response (200% Load)" category. There are also a lot of chinese/korean reviews of Segotep that use actual DC load testers with proper testing methodologies, and I'll place them here when I find them again.

No one should blindly trust a manufacturer on their products. Even supposedly good companies like Seasonic released duds like the S12II/III (that use group regulation and lack various protection mechanisms), Older Focus units that were suspectible to shutdowns due to the transient demands of higher power gpus like the Vega 64 and the like, and rebrands of lower end XHY(Company behind Cooler master MWE v2 psus), RSY(Shenzhen Rui Sheng Yuan, they used to produce psus for Topower, Rasurbo, and Ultra. Superflower uses RSY factories to manufacture their psu designs from time to time) and Helly technology (1stplayer) psus under the Seasonic B12 branding.

Corsair also had duds with the older VS and CX power supplies, and their earlier digitally capable psus that had problems with specific motherboards due to their erratic PG-ON signalling.

And before someone accuses me being a colorful shill, I am not. I'd rather shill for Superflower if that was the case (due to the Leadex platform psus and their surprisingly excellent half-bridge units of the old used in mad dog/azza/kingwin power supplies ). It is good to be wary of psu OEMs/ODMs that are relatively unknown or have proven to have a chronic case of being bad (Like Logisys/Linkworld and the like), but to be dismissive and hyperbolic about the supposed faults of something does not help anyone in this case as Segotep branded Colorful power supplies are excellent budget options. I got a Segotep GM850 for 62$ on sale, and I doubt you can find something better performing than at its price range.

I would say the vast majority of users don't know who built their power supply, cases, AIO cooler, fans, etc., etc., (including most on this site) but the few people on TPU who I follow know their PSU oem and are familiar with the more popular ones. That said, Deer is mostly a brand who outsource PSU as is Daiboltek. Linkworld is an OEM with a facility in Suzhou.

Also, The Seasonic S12II was released at a time when virtually all after market consumer PSU were group regualted so you can't fault them for that. You can fault them for lack of OTP, poor OCP, and swapping out the fan to a cheaper version during the production run. The S12III was never built by Seasonic but rather outsourced to an OEM that Superflower uses as well at times.
