Yeah, If it wasn't for Telegram iOS app being a 0/10 fiasco and all banking apps being banned for political reasons, I'd consider getting myself a 12th Pro Max. 7+ is obsolete for a while already.

Still using a Samsung Galaxy S9+ that I'll ride until it dies (probably sooner than I want with the battery now lasting only a day). Then I'm going to switch to a Pixel running Graphene.

they run 15, 2 (almost 3) versions old. all the apps I use are fine

the 6 runs iOS 12 which is much older. it's still reasonable to support iOS 15, iOS 12 is the lowest version you can support for new apps/app updates and there's not really a reason to. developing for iOS 12 isn't fun

Since early this month, I now have a Galaxy S23 for the daily driver. I can get 5G in parts of Claremont, New Hampshire now.

Still looks like I can't get 5G in eastern Vermont. At least in Windsor County and likely the same for most of Windham County.

Pixel 4a 5g.

I can surf the web, text, and watch the occasional thing, so that's good.

The battery generally lasts all day even under relatively heavy screen on time.

Takes pretty alright photos and video.

I don't store much more than pictures and basically everything else is a web portal so has plenty of memory.

Don't see a point to upgrading for another two years at least.

I don't understand people who spend £1000+ on a phone, as long as you can call, text and have a browser on it, do you really need a phone that cost over a thousand quid?

1000 pounds is quite much, but looking at the rest you said, you would think the same about 800 or 200 pounds phones. The thing with better ones is - even if you are non-demanding, completely basic user like you and also me - anytime you use it, you just see it being better, so appreciate it. Like it does anything faster and smoother, OLED screen is nicer to look at and thanks to high brightness you simply can see what's on the screen when in bright environment, camera takes better photos or if you happen to watch some video, speakers are not pain to listen to. It's all quality of life improvements of device you use everyday, so quite important one. Some just can't stop using lol. The more you use something, the more I recommend not saving on it's quality of life if you just can afford it. Guys paying for more expensive phones must find them making a difference, so paying for more quality of life worth it ;)

Yes. Makes a difference. I went from budget to midrange and then flagships and it makes a difference. Budget phones wear out a lot quicker. I have used midrange phones for 3 years before they become unusable. I have recently got a s22 and just it does feel like a different beast even if you do very normal stuff.

I do like having a great camera on my phone. A wise man once said, the best camera is the one which is with you at all times.

Switched temporarily to a iPhone SE 2020 (white), feels hella snappy when compared to the old 8 Plus. Also feels comfy that I have a phone once again which is fully usable with one hand.

Bought it used from Swappie, 149EUR + postage, it was practically in mint condition and has 96% of battery capacity.
yeah but typing on it is ok for elementary school girl
grown-up hands will have issues, lol

Samsung S Series in "base" offer same fkin great mobility and one-hand control, super happy with S23. Have had SE20202 temporarily, too, lol. Also, I don't need powerbank anymore, lol ;)

stupid apple policy - make things worse if they are great. they claim about "security issues", but, same as with old Windows (and it's "Windows Update support"), we all know it's about business and money. never iOS on older iPhones is pure big b*ttplug in you a** - you INSTANTLY want a new iPhone, lol. slow as hell.

I literally don't have anyone there. What's the point? Still, this advice is vicious as hell.
There's literally nothing "vicious" about it.

It's the best messaging app available that's cross platform.

Last time I tried it it was about seven years behind Telegram, also being less convenient and friendly.

Anyhow, I didn't ask what to do. I just stated how bad things with Telegram are on iOS. No need to be a smart arse and throw unearthed recommendations.

I'd better find a way to improve Telegram on iOS than build everything from scratch on a different, allegedly "best" messaging app.

Apple's security, while obviously beneficial to their walled garden fiscal approach, is actually one of the things I admire about their phone platform.

I would still never use an iphone, but that's for other reasons, such as their repair policy and nasty software locks on flawed designs etc. Louis Rossman goes into more detail.

Well, I'd better be remaking "iOS", as "best mobile OS", with stupid dynosaur traps like not being able to share mp3 files, put songs as ringtone without stupid iTunes and convertation like on 2000s phones lmfao, not being able to use phone as USB storage for Windows PC etc. etc.
There are so many b**tf*cks in iOS apps, I believe its iOS "requirements" not 4rd party apps cuz on Android using apps like Telegram are way better.....

Google Pixel 7 Pro, but ultimately if I didn't want a half decent camera even most budget phones would do. I have two cheaper Motorola's that were very good previously, it was just the camera response and quality that let it down.
The 8 (and presumably 8 Pro) is night and day better than the 7 Pro when it comes to camera - so much faster to focus, so much better low light performance, it's wild.

I do miss the size of the 7 Pro, but the 8 is otherwise just a better device all around. Better battery life, brightness, call quality, processor, camera. Pretty wild. Looking forward to the 9 Pro.

Doncha dare! iPhone must be a brick of a phone!

No matter how bad iOS is from the freedom standpoint, the difference is becoming less and less apparent with Android generally becoming more and more prohibitive, especially if we account brand-specific Android forks. We're beyond halfway through it. I can guarantee you both iOS and Android will be more or less equally restrictive and feature starved by late 2030s if the trend doesn't drastically change.

Personally I don't even care about any "real" customization on my phone. Never even rooted one Android device when I used them.

I guess I have "mid-sized" hands and I can even type with a 4-inch iPhone 5s :D
As a mighty viking sized man with 8-inch hands I can approve of iPhone SE being suboptimal for my kind. XS Max is the very minimum, anything smaller is too small.
Personally I don't even care about any "real" customization on my phone. Never even rooted one Android device when I used them.
Whatever floats your boat but being unable to fine tune just outright sucks.

Cheap Motorola G Power 5G XT2311DL super cheap but 5000 mah battery does what I need lasts all day. Not much more I could ask for. Best part if it dies or breaks no real issue with replacement costs and since I use prepaid my bill is dirt cheap.

4GB of ram 128GB rom 2400 x 1080 display. Youtube works / web browsing works / camera is fairly okay... so yeah decent cheap daily driver.

I hope there will be "something new" by this time, mobile OS needs something "fresh" instead of copy-paste between 2 OS, but, please, better than Huawei cr*p (analog of Samsung "Tizen" or whatever BS they have tried lol)

I just purchased an "excellent condition" 256 GB gold iPhone XS Max, from the same shop that I got my 6s Plus from. Should be in immaculate condition, so I'm looking forward for it to arrive. Cheaper than an iPhone 11, generally better endowed.

It's something to tide me over until the iPhone 16 Pro releases. I meant to wait, but due to some unforeseen issues I can't anymore. Similar price to a (new) Moto G84, but a low-end Android phone just won't do it for me. If I dread how the Exynos 9820 runs I'm sure the Snapdragon 695 wouldn't make me any happier.

The battery and performance on my 6s Plus have begun to deteriorate quite badly (During the time I needed to write this post on it, charge level went from 100 to 31%, it's no longer usable), the replacement battery I purchased was a DOA and I already replaced its screen due to phantom tap issues, speaking of which, my S10+'s also began to malfunction with phantom taps and random underscreen fingerprint reader activations. I plan on retiring both of them as soon as the new one arrives.
