What phone you use as your daily driver? And, a discussion of them.

I haven't been able to charge through my lightning port for about a month now. I have been wireless charging, and I gotta say.. I don't like it. The phone and charger get super hot because it is on my mattress. I spent some time at my providers website to try and find the best deal on a new phone. The new 15 series is way more than I want to pay, since I have 3 lines on my plan lol.. I ended up going with a 14 Pro in Black, with 1TB of space. My XS Max has 256, but they didn't have that size just 128 and 512 were my other options. Not sure why I chose 1TB lol.. ahh well.. last lightning phone. I will take better care of this one.. the environment at work is hard on my phone. I can literally put all of my music, movies, photos and all that on there now.
There's a usb c version of the iPhone 15, its exclusive to EU sadly because the forced them to switch to type c

A sammy triple whammy

S22 ULTRA (personal + work)

S8+ (work)

S7 (sitting around looking pretty)

The S22 is still a pretty new device, though :D

I've decided to wait for the iPhone 16 Pro to release and I'll pick one of those up. Unsure it'll be the Max, unless there's a disparity in the camera capabilities like with this year's models, I'd rather have the slightly more compact one. Really not looking forward to my poor wallet after buying one of those unsubsidized, but miss me with that contract stuff. Hahaha

A Blackview N6000. It won't only survive the apocalypse, but also fits in one hand. No more two-handed typing or notification bar pull-downs for me. 4 days on one charge is also welcome. :)

I also have my old Sammy A22 5G because my Samsung band won't synchronise its weather notifications with anything else. Damned closed ecosystems!

Standardization is great. Like pointed out, it's also worldwide, not EU only. There isn't much sense in having 2 types of connectors on the market. Iphone has been using USB 2.0 even on 14 Pro until Iphone 15 launched with Type C, and they would continue to do so if they weren't forced to standardize in EU. I really dislike that you have have to cash out more for the 15 Pro that has USB 3.2, while not so unexpensive Iphone 15 is still stuck on USB 2.0 speeds. Not that it's a must have, but still. Samsung has been using USB 3.x Type C on the S series since S8. Ironically, Apple was among first to utilize Type C port on their MacBooks.

Typical Apple greed here, they should all have 3.2 considering the price.

There's a lot more, including last decade standard of 60 Hz screen refresh rate, but I won't get into it any further.

You buy Apple for the name and/or software, not for the features.

I hope there will be new phones with ~6" screen once I replace this one in 2028/2029 or so...
Smaller is better imo with phones these days...

Sure, it's a "premium" brand, but something inside me won't let me use a display with a 60 Hz refresh rate in 2024, 15 Pro price increase isn't worth it for me. I considered Iphone 15 Pro but opted for Samsung S23+ 256 GB last year instead, it's a fair upgrade from S20 (which still works great). Biggest dealbreaker for me was Galaxy Watch 4 Classic incompatibility with iOS since WatchOS doesn't support iOS, older iterations with Tizen OS still connect though.

For eu users the s24 aint an upgrade anyways - also keeping my s23.

Hopefully samsung will get their heads out of their arses and give eu a snapdragon phone again before 2028.

I thought around this time the Exynos wasn't that bad in the S24.
But usually the Snapdragon is preferred , yes...

It's not bad at all, it's actually faster when compared to Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. Battery life is somewhat the same, depends on what you use the phone for.

Edit: Here's Exynos 2400 vs Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 comparison.

Yes, exynos s24 is only faster than s23 by the smallest possible margin - especially singlethread performance is hardly improved, which is the most important for most apps.

And yeah, snapdragon s24 is faster than exynos s24, aswell as less power consuming, and less hot... as is always the case, and is always the case eu gets shafted with the crappy exynos version.

I really don't get their strategy with using an inferior chip in a market like eu... you'd think that they essentially don't give a f*ck about that market.

damn. do you think it will be possible?

i try to use my phones 4 years or so. But they get freakishly slow after 3 years. I have used the A51 before this, and the J7pro before that.

Exynos is okay, but snapdragon is better. You cant say you are selling a flagship when it doesnt come with the best processor out there. period.
i woudlnt have bought my s22 if it didnt have the snapdragon chip. The exynos one is pretty power hungry.

Which is why you shouldn't update your phone after the first year... after that every update will make your phone slower - manufacturer telling you it's time to buy a new phone...

Sure! I was using my S7 from 2016 till half way 2022.... (I keep it, it's still as new)
I don't use many apps.

thats only applicable for apples. i think even they stopped it after a lawsuit or something?

its just that newer software is more optimized to make the most of the more powerful resources of latest gen devices.

On Samsung I usually update the software, back up everything ,hard reset the phone then restore. I do this maybe once a year to keep it responsive
