What's the best monitor I can get for $600 ?

Hi.

So I decided to buy a new monitor since I'm sick of my ugly SyncMaster 2333 which is a TN monitor with VERY VERY bad color reproduction.

I did a little research and settled on the Dell UltraSharp U2410 until I read many reviews about how bugged this monitor was.

So, what do you think is the best monitor I can get for $600:

The monitor is mainly going to be used for gaming but I don't buy all the marketing BS about these "Gaming Monitors (TN)"

Specs: (ordered in terms on priority)

1. Panel type: anything other than TN (e.g IPS, S-IPS...etc)
2. Color reproduction: This is probably the most important thing I care about.
3. Viewing Angle.
4. Response Time, 6ms and below only.

I'm sick of getting tricked and buying TN monitors, my eyes will be mutated if this continued:cry:

If not a Dell, Apple is known for very good monitor quality. Not sure how big one would be for $600, though. Apple is expensive.
 
Only thing can think of a WLED backlit display.
 
By the way, do you think that waiting for more 120Hz monitors is worth it ?

I've a Sony Bravia TV which has a function called FastMotion or something like that, if I enabled it the refresh rate rise to 100Hz which makes the game runs very smoothly yet it gives you headaches, it's cool nevertheless.

Well to be honest I'd go for the Dell and not the HP. I only suggested the HP because you seemed adamant against the Dell. :)

I have the 27" Dell myself and I can't complain about it at all. It's the best monitor I ever owned.

I came across this comparing the Dell U2410 and the HP2475:

HP’s LP2475w is currently the only monitor we have reviewed that offers a similar feature set at a similar price point. In fact it’s available for around £420 making it slightly cheaper than the Dell. Though the HP offers greater height adjustment, the U2410 beats it hands down in every other way, offering smoother adjustments, superior build quality and far nicer looks. When it comes to connectivity, the U2410 gets you a card reader and a dedicated VGA port, but the LP2475w wins out with an extra two USB ports and a digital co-axial audio output for pass-through of sound from an HDMI input.

Of course image quality is the most important criteria for most users, and here Dell does seem to offer slightly better quality across the board despite slightly lower real-world contrast, with RGB/CMY adjustments being a particularly nice touch. In fact it would probably win if it weren’t for the dithering pattern we came across, though this is circumvented by avoiding the Adobe RGB preset. On the other hand the HP LP2475w appears to suffer from poor quality control on panels if the comments on our review are anything to go by, so the Dell is still likely to be the safer bet.

I've read many reviews which describes this bug as a green tint on the left side and a pink tint on the right side of the monitor and it becomes really noticeable when there is a white background.

I suppose that the only thing that I can do if I wanted to buy the Dell U2410 is to unbox it and test it in the shop.

Also, I've heard a rumor that the Dell U2411 should be released in May 2011...hmmm too many options...

I've just got a replay from a shop I know, it seems I'll have to wait for 4 weeks because the monitor (U2410) is currently on order-base-selling.

So, do you think that it's worth it to wait and see if any better models will be released in the next 3 months ?
