I,ve looked wherever on the net and found that ATI released the 1GB FireGL V7350 in March 2006 but does anybody know when Nvidia released their first 1 gb card ?

A friend will be donating a 1gb card to a build but knows nothing about it other than it is 1gb and that it works.

My guess would probably be the Quadro FX5500 released in April 2006. I'm not sure if the Quadro FX4500 ever game in a 1GB variant though, if it did then that would have come out in July 2005.

Easiest just to stick the card into a computer and use GPU-Z to identify the card.

Quadro FX 5500 (April 20, 2006) and GeForce 7900 GX2 (March 10, 2006) appear to be the first NVIDIA cards to have 1 GiB of VRAM. GX2 is kind of cheating though because it is a dual GPU card (two banks of 512 MiB VRAM).

Fordgt90concept

i havent received it yet. Thanks for the release date.

So..............at worst it is a card that was released March 2006
at best it could be anything.

Well it could be a hypermemory card, which would appear to have 1gb ram but only cheat you into thinking so, could be a GT520 or something

He just mailed me to say he bought it in pc world for 50 quid a year ago so itll go in my kids pc. Could be a 5450 if im really unlucky

There were at least some 1GB variants of some of the higher-end 7000 series GeForce cards, like the 7900 GT and 7900 GTX. Well, all of the cards based on the G71 had 1GB variants at least...

It will be something like that. Or 6540 or something.

Wouldn't expect much more than that, PCworld are quite overpriced so, maybe a little better if you are lucky ;)

I didnt think it could be any worse than a 5450 BUT IT IS.....................

its a Nvidia gt 218
