Had a Antec SP-500 500W psu that reportedly had a high failure rate that never gave me any trouble still replaced it. Better safe than sorry.

Get the point, a PSU review is no means to base or judge any other PSU, i have a Corsair unit in my AM3 PC... that thing is 6 years old too lol.

Are you high on something? It's not a review, christ almighty. It's a redux comparing their 1kw psu tested 7 years ago vs today, and how it changed. It is but one specific example. WTF are you on?

Warranty or not, 4 to 5 years is about right, whether it needs to or not. I don't give them a chance to to sudden old-age death.

I have an ultra xconnect 500 and antec neo he 500 for legacy builds. The xconnect is for a 754 rig im resurrecting with xfx 250x core edition and 3gb ram.

(Yes i'm crazy but i talked with xfx support on the chipset and gpu compatibility)

I voted till it goes poof. but on a side note I try to replace it every 5 years, whichever comes first. If my PSU doesnt die, there theres no real reason to replace it imo. On average each PSU that i have has been 'recycled' and put into two different machines before eventually being sold off.

That is an absolutely beautiful power supply mine was nowhere near that cost but still very good in my opinion I trade it in a heartbeat for that seasonic tho

In my case, PSU replacement depends on a few things. If PSU's fan starts rattling, if it starts squealing or if its standard voltages change, I'll try to replace it with another unit or with another PSU brand if its warranty already expired.

Otherwise I'll replace it anywhere between the period of 5-7 years.

I only had 1 PSU go boom on me. It courght fire, and took out my whole system, but thats a very long time ago. Ever since I only buy quality products and they get changed just about every 5 years.

I had my Zalman ZM1000-HP Dual Heatpipe PSU from 2008 - 2014 but changed it after it wouldn't power two GTX 780s (even though it should have). Based on this I'm now changing PSUs in other computers after every ~5 years or so.

Many people here say that they use their PSUs untill the warranty expires and then replace them. I have a question! What is stopping the PSU from dying IN the warranty period?
I know it is covered by warranty and the seller/manufacturer will replace it, but if some other components die together with the PSU? You are f**ked up...
I've worked in a PC repair shop for 12 years and have seen many completely destroyed systems because of the PSU poofed (the magic smoke got out!). Motherboards, VGAs, HDDs, RAM Modules... nothing is completely safe.
Yes, most of the dead PSUs I've seen over the years, have been some cheapo Chinese sh**s but there have been some good brands also. It all depends on the country you live in... In some countries, the power is so unstable that in can eat many PSUs in a single PCs lifetime...
