i was looking at getting a Vega 64 for my VR box when it was announced that it would be $500... that didn't happen. i was searching ebay and amazon until i stumbled what looked like a price error, a Vega 64 card listed on Amazon for $230, sold by a 3rd party seller but shipped by Amazon. I jumped on it thinking that if it's the wrong item, i'll return it. if it's the right item, the seller can't cancel the order because Amazon is fulfilling it.

well, i got the card a few days ago. it was in fact a Vega 64, for only $250 (after tax). holy balls. i uploaded a pic of the amazon invoice (personal and seller info redacted) and a pic of my new toy.

anyone else got any cool scalper stories?

doubt it. Newegg has Vega 64 for $680, and people aren't buying. i can maybe sell it for $650, but i'll be left with 575ish after fees and shipping. i'd rather keep it

this is the current plan. it sounds like a blow drier after 30 minutes of fallout 4. but i don't want to do any more custom loops for the rest of my life. i'll wait for an AIO cooling solution, similar to what EVGA makes for nvidia cards.

It's still a rubbish card though as you're finding out, so I suggest eBaying it at a profit and putting the money towards a nice GTX 1080 Ti. So much faster and no fucking hairdryer in your PC.

they caught the error right after i bought it, 2 minutes after i placed that order, the price changed. i should have checked out with more. but honestly, i thought i was going to get something else. i didn't expect to actually get a vega card.

correct. i do not care much about the power draw. this is going in my VR build and i was really looking for something in the gtx 1070 performance range. i've already managed to undervolt it to 1050mV with no degradation in performance, it still hits 1630MHz. i haven't measure the exact power draw, but this computer stopped tripping the alarm on the 450W APC battery it's attached to, so it's definitely helping.

i used a dremel tool to add a 140mm fan opening over the GPU
it's a really tight fit. i have to take the entire case apart and reassemble it with the GPU installed.

now that it's undervolted and i bumped up the fan speed, i get low 60s while running benchmarks and playing overwatch on a 4K TV with maxed out settings. i have a 140mm Corsair maglev fan blowing right into the card's air intake.

i'll try more games later. this was a very busy weekend and i haven't had anywhere near as much time with my new toy as i'd like

EDIT: CPU is humming along at around 50*C. it's not overclocked.

pretty bad. i think i mentioned it earlier, but when it ramps up it can sound like a blow drier. fortunately i will soon have it hooked up to a 7.2 channel surround sound system that will drown it out.

Its not rubbish at 250. At 250 its the go-to GPU regardless of resolution really. And when in doubt, get two. It still rivals a 1080 stock which is a lot of horsepower, at a 50% discount in the midst of a mining frenzy. 'Rubbish' he says... lol. Remember no card is gonna last forever, and you will sell this even two years from now for a higher price than 250.

@OP try undervolting that sucker to tone down the noise profile, chances are you'll barely lose perf.

Yeah, I know where you're coming from, but I'm thinking about all the issues with it which remain regardless of price, even free, so would want to make me replace it anyway. Seriously, if I was given one for free I'd sell and get a 1080 or 1080 Ti. That's my preference, anyway.

Pretty awesome. The way things have been lately it could be faster than the 1080 long term since Nvidia doesn't seem to support old cards, as dumb as that is.

Since you mentioned you are going to use your Vega for VR. Can you do a quick check to see if your Vega64 has SteamVR Async Reprojection support?

AFAIK VEGA64 completely lacks CrossFire support. Would like to know whether the VR support is as bad as the CrossFire support
