X800XT is a lot more powerful than a 6800GS (unless it is unlocked to 16pp)

With SM2.0 vs 3.0....that just depends on what games you play. If you want it for newer games the 6800 is better...older games the X800.

Keep the 939 rig easy, i still own a 3700+ and it would eat that P4 up in a second, it use to beat my m8s 3.2Ghz P4 easy, its a no brainer really.

The GPU tho im not sure about, the 6800GS is not bad, but iam not really sure about the ATI card =/

Do a quick bench test in both rigs with both cards and see whats better?

But keep the 939 Machine, he doesn't need anything as good as that for what he is going to be doin.

I will have to say that the x800xt does have alot better IQ in my opinion. If anything my son still plays UT2004 and WOW. any games newer we will play on the 4870x2. I'm only selling the 1 i don't keep for $125.00 so i should keep the good stuff (shhhh_lol ) Thanks again

they both bench about the same in 3Dmarks 03 (11039) i'll actually rerun the x800xt on the 939 system now

3700+ 6800GS OC = 11170 (177.40 drivers)
3700+ X800XT = 11778 (8.8 Drivers)

its the 6800GS an NV40, NV41 or NV42 GPU?

The odds are good its NV40, if you can unlock it to 16pp6vs it becomes a 6800GT really fast. If its based on NV42 which a few AGP cards where, the core can be oc'd to 6800GS PCIe speeds and still equal a 6800GT. Now if its NV41 your screwed

Thats odd....in 03 the X800XT should score a lot higher (unless its losing points due to the CPU).

If you really want, get a cheap $5 or 10 AGP card for his rig and keep both the X800 and 6800. Its not like he is doing anything on the PC requiring a good VGA :p

I'll check it after the benchmark: Everest says NV40GS / pixel shaders 12(v3.0)
R420 / pixel shaders 16 (v2.0)

Well after messing with this old stuff i found a wierd issue with the X800XT on the intel board i used a DVI cable and it worked fine, but on the AMD board i get a blank screen it seems i need to use a vga cable, If i hook up the monitor with a vga and a dvi cable once it gets into windows it swithes the dvi mode (WEIRD) Since the monitor i will be using is only DVI i guess the 6800GS OC wins :) and i like the ATI IQ better :) Thanks Guys it was fun lol

Last comment on this post :) I ended up keeping the 6800GS for the reason above. then i did what candle86 said and unlocked the pixel shaders to 16 and the vertex shaders to 6 benched it and got 12717 :) Thanks Guys (PS) the other guy really likes his $125.00 computer so we are both happy now (lol)
